Darth Maul Reportedly Returning In Obi-Wan Kenobi TV Show

After nearly 20 years away from the movie franchise, Darth Maul made his shocking return to the big screen in last year's Solo: A Star Wars Story, as he appeared in a brief cameo that revealed him to be the real brains behind the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate. This was clearly originally intended to set up a sequel, but this is highly unlikely to happen now after the film didn't perform well at the box office. However, Maul could live on in an entirely different, though connected, project.

We Got This Covered has previously brought you the news that an Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series is coming to Disney Plus, with Ewan McGregor expected to return as the iconic retired Jedi knight. Now, we’re hearing that Maul will have a role in the show as well, and possibly a major one. As you’d expect, our source informs us that the series will be set prior to the Original Trilogy but following the events of Solo. In fact, it’ll directly continue on from where that movie left off as Emilia Clarke’s Qi-Ra is reportedly reappearing as well.

If the Solo franchise isn’t going to continue, then it certainly makes sense for Maul to find a new home in the Obi-Wan series as the Emperor’s former apprentice and Kenobi have such a long history together. They’re firm enemies in The Phantom Menace and The Clone Wars only deepened this animosity, with Maul becoming obsessed with defeating the man who almost killed him. Eventually, Kenobi stopped him once and for all in Star Wars: Rebels. So, chronologically-speaking, the story of their rivalry has been completed but there’s still room in there for more confrontations.

Interestingly, Ray Park did recently tease on social media that he might be due to return to the role soon. If our intel’s correct, this would be his third time portraying the character, not counting the spot of motion-capture he did for Darth Maul‘s action scenes in the upcoming final season of TCW.

Of course, we’ll keep you posted as more comes in on the Obi-Wan Disney Plus series, but at the moment, it’s certainly shaping up to be something pretty exciting.
