It: Chapter Two Director Confirms The Flash As His Next Movie

This coming October will mark five years since Ezra Miller was first cast as The Flash, and despite playing the character for half a decade he doesn't really have a great deal to show for it. Behind-the-scenes issues have plagued both the Scarlet Speedster's solo movie and the wider DC Extended Universe, limiting Miller to brief cameos in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad along on top of a key role in Justice League.

To put that into perspective, Ezra Miller was first announced as the Flash a full year before Tom Holland was cast as Spider-Man, yet the latter has already headlined two solo adventures and played a pivotal supporting role in three ensemble movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, after years of delays it finally looks like The Flash could finally be making its way in front of cameras in the not-too-distant future.

It: Chapter Two director Andy Muschietti was recently hired as director, making him the fourth person to hold the position, and after reports started circulating that the filmmaker was looking to take a few months off to recharge his creative batteries after the release of the anticipated horror sequel, many thought he’d become the latest in a long line of people to abandon the movie. Turns out that’s not the case, with Muschietti confirming that The Flash would be his next project, while also revealing what drew him to the DCEU flick in the first place.

“What captivated me about The Flash is the human drama in it. The human feelings and emotions that play in the drama of it. It’s going to be fun, too. I can’t promise that there will be any horror elements in it, really, but it’s a beautiful human story.”

The Flash hasn’t had a lot of luck after Rick Famuyiwa, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein all decided against directing, along with rumors that Miller himself had decided to write his own version of the script with Grant Morrison following creative disagreements about the movie’s tone. Here’s hoping that Muschietti and recently-hired writer Christina Hodson will finally be the ones to bring the lightning-fast superhero to the big screen after such a long wait.
