I'm a writer/editor who's been at the site since 2015. I cover politics, weird history, video games and... well, anything really. Keep it breezy, keep it light, keep it straightforward.
Bruce Campbell made his name with the Evil Dead franchise and is quizzed about its return in every interview he's done for the last twenty years. Fortunately, right now there's some actual news for him to report. Evil Dead 4 is officially going ahead under the direction of Lee Cronin, though will not feature Bruce Campbell's iconic Ash. The project was officially unveiled two weeks ago, when Campbell revealed that the title was Evil Dead Now.
Paranormal Activity was a small movie that went on to have big consequences for the entertainment industry. Not only did it become one of the most profitable movies in Hollywood history after making almost $200m on a $350k budget, but it was a major early success for Jason Blum's Blumhouse Productions, who have gone on to create a number of fantastic horror movies, the best of which is the incredible Get Out.
2020 will go down in history for many reasons but will be remembered as a particularly miserable year for the entertainment industry. After four months in which we faced endless delays and postponements, though, there's some light at the end of the tunnel. While the virus still poses a danger, governments are beginning to relax their lockdowns, meaning that movie and TV shoots have begun to dust off their costumes, warm up their cameras and pull the plastic sheets off their mothballed sets.
Mel Gibson is as well known for starring in hits like Mad Max, Braveheart and Lethal Weapon as he is for his unhinged 2006 rant where, after being stopped by a traffic cop while drunk driving, he responded with: "F**king Jews... the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world. Are you a Jew?" Thus began a long process of image rehabilitation, somewhat derailed by a 2010 incident in which he told the mother of his child that if she was "raped by a pack of n****rs" she would be to blame.
Animated children's films have proven incredibly popular on Netflix. Earlier this year, Despicable Me was added and quickly shot to the top of the most-viewed charts, with parents hungry for stuff to entertain the young ones with. As such, they're now pouring more funds into original children's entertainment, with the next big release being Over the Moon.
With the live-action movie franchise currently on hiatus while they figure out a reboot, Transformers: War for Cybertron is being positioned as the big Transformers event for the next few years. Originally announced in February 2018, the transmedia project will be led by a Netflix show that'll depict the last days of the titular War for Cybertron and the subsequent exodus to Earth.
David Lynch might be my favorite director of all time. All of his movies are at minimum interesting, have unpredictable plots and are usually more terrifying than any genre horror film. Plus, he's simply an entertaining human being. In fact, I've begun tuning in for his daily weather report just because his face and voice give me insanely good vibes.
FX on Hulu got two major new additions confirmed yesterday. Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story spinoff American Horror Stories and upcoming comic book adaptation Y: The Last Man will both be exclusive to the streaming service. For those unfamiliar with FX on Hulu, it was announced in March as a long-term partnership between the two companies which will see FX-produced shows made exclusively for the Disney-owned Hulu.
