I'm a writer/editor who's been at the site since 2015. I cover politics, weird history, video games and... well, anything really. Keep it breezy, keep it light, keep it straightforward.
Dragon Ball has been popular since the early 90s and right now it's in a new golden era. Fans who grew up with Dragon Ball Z look back on it with warm nostalgia and the last few years have seen TV shows, movies and video games that have introduced many new fans to Akira Toriyama's iconic world.
Surprisingly everyone, French director Christophe Gans casually mentioned he was working on a new Silent Hill movie in a recent interview with Allocine. The beloved but long-dormant franchise has seen faint signs of life over the last week. There's been rumors swirling around the video game community that Konami is developing two new entries in the series (one an Until Dawn 'choose your own adventure' style game and the other a full reboot of the franchise). Now it seems that the movie franchise has kicked back into gear.
Whatever your opinion on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, it did at least live up to its billing as the finale of the Skywalker saga. While we will see further projects that take place in the busy period between The Phantom Menace and The Rise of Skywalker, Disney and Lucasfilm are looking to expand their horizons and find new Star Wars stories to tell. The setting will be the High Republic, reportedly a few centuries before the movies take place and everything that takes place in it will fall under the umbrella of 'Project Luminous'.
Sony are in the early stages of development on a Spider-Woman movie, and we've now seen the synopsis for the studio's new take on Jessica Drew's story.
The Jason Bourne franchise has been a reliable source of high-tech action and espionage for nearly two decades. Matt Damon's Bourne has become a symbol of no-nonsense action, with the films setting themselves apart from the crowd with real stunt work, staying away from big CGI set pieces and generally keeping both feet firmly planted on the ground when it comes to realism. Since The Bourne Identity hit cinemas back in 2002, the franchise has grossed over $1.6 billion for Universal, but now it seems they're preparing to hit the reset button and take the series back to basics.
Something is up at Lucasfilm. Last week, we got the shocking news that the much-hyped Obi-Wan was delayed and that the crew were sent home after issues with the scripts. Now, we're hearing that the Rogue One show focusing on Cassian Andor is facing similar problems.
Poe Dameron fans haven't had a great few months. Not only did the character not have much to do in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (to Oscar Isaac's obvious annoyance), but a line of dialogue retconned his past from heroic Resistance pilot to sometime shady drug smuggler. This was a particularly lazy bit of writing obviously intended to position Poe as the rogueish Han Solo of the Sequel Trilogy. But, as fans of the character are aware, Poe is a far more upstanding figure than Han was.
Perennial competitors Marvel and DC have always had fun dealing with one another. Their interactions can range from the odd small parody right up to something as weird as the 90s Amalgam Universe which combined DC and Marvel characters with one another. It's even been confirmed that the two multiverses exist in parallel with one another, with Thor somewhat cheekily appearing to kill off the entire DC Universe as part of its Black Winter event.
The Witcher is frequently compared to Game of Thrones. Both are dark medieval fantasy stories with adult themes, complicated histories and both are based on a highly regarded series of novels. One other aspect in which they're comparable though are their sex scenes. Game of Thrones famously went in heavy on them early on, delivering information about the world in a manner that came to be known as 'sexposition.'
I don't have a huge amount of time for stage musicals. A lot of them are self-indulgent, full of very cheesy music and overly sentimental. But I will always have time for Little Shop of Horrors. The tale of a nerdy, lovesick florist trying to win a woman's heart while simultaneously catering to the murderous appetites of a giant, talking carnivorous plant pushes all my buttons. And now it seems that Warner Bros are going ahead with their long-rumored remake, and are eyeing Taron Egerton and Scarlett Johansson for the leads, with Pose star Billy Porter playing man-eating plant Audrey II.
