Not long ago, we learned that the seventh season of Arrow will push the boundaries of what The CW’s censors will allow, but we didn’t really get any specifics. I mean, there were also hints being dropped regarding it being the darkest season to air since the first, though you can never be too sure until it’s actually showtime.
Yesterday, we finally got a better picture of what this fall's Arrowverse crossover will entail when it was confirmed the title will be "Elseworlds." Serving as a nod to the line of DC books of the same name, classics such as Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, Superman: Red Son and Kingdom Come immediately spring to mind as masterworks that served up unforgettable alternate takes on some of our favorite heroes.
After impressing audiences in recent years with "Invasion!" and "Crisis on Earth-X," we've been left pondering how the producers behind the Arrowverse could possibly top those with their next effort. Fortunately, the past few months have treated us to a variety of details regarding the subject, though we didn't know exactly how to piece them together.
Contrary to whatever hatred the naysayers have to spew, I’m still very much looking forward Venom because everything I’ve seen pertaining to it is so badass. The iconic logo may be absent from the titular anti-hero’s chest, sure, but I’m positive that I can work past the omission. After all, Dolph Lundgren didn’t rock the skull in 1989’s The Punisher, yet I’m able to appreciate that offering as a decent 80’s action film.
Given that Legends of Tomorrow will be the last of the Arrowverse series to premiere this fall, it makes sense that it bring up the rear when it comes to promotional material being released. In fact, just yesterday, we were finally treated to a fair amount of images taken from "The Virgin Gary," the peculiarly titled episode kicking off the next year of adventures.
In recent months, we've heard about how Arrow's seventh season will be the darkest since its first. Heck, producer James Bamford even said it's pushing the boundaries of what The CW's censors will allow. Given that, we fully expect for some rather brutal fight sequences and mature themes to follow.
This fall, fans of wallcrawlers will have the opportunity to indulge in the highly anticipated Spider-Geddon, but we imagine lovers of mutants are just waiting for the next major event that'll shake the X-Men's corner of the Marvel Universe to its core.
Though the next major Arrowverse crossover set to introduce Ruby Rose as the first ever live action Batwoman is an absolute certainty, it's also pretty much a sure bet that smaller scale mashups will occur at various points over the course of the next year. After all, if such things have happened during past seasons, then why should The CW give up now?
As of late, The CW have been gradually rolling out photos promoting each respective premiere for its Arrowverse shows, with Legends of Tomorrow taking its sweet time to get here. Although, arriving last to the party for that series makes sense, since it'll be the final one to air.
The tricky part about centering any work of fiction on a villain is that you may have to portray them as the protagonist in a certain light. When it comes to DC, we've seen this happen with the likes of Lex Luthor, Deathstroke and Poison Ivy, but it's important we not forget the terrible things these characters have done, even if an author is able to lend them more humanity.
