Despite the fact that we have to wait three more months until Arrow's seventh season officially commences, it’s quite comforting knowing that cameras have begun rolling on the next leg in Oliver Queen's journey. That’s right, now that production is well underway, maybe it’ll create the illusion of premiere night being just around the corner.
Considering how Mortal Kombat has remained a highly successful video game series for more than 25 years, you'd think Hollywood would've been able to get a third movie off the ground at some point - even if 1997's Annihilation did leave a bad taste in the mouths of many. I mean, there were two live action series - one on TV and one on the web - but fans have hungered for something on the silver screen.
Being someone who grew up during the VHS era, I remember full well what it was like to seemingly wait forever for a movie to arrive on home video. And though the turnaround gradually lessened over the years, I didn't ever think a three-month window would become the standard - especially for films that rake in more than $2 billion over the course of their theatrical runs.
Though 2018 has served up some fine superhero movies thus far, I'll be honest in saying that Deadpool 2 is my favorite of the bunch. Sure, I'm not exactly a Wade Wilson super fan, but I thought that Ryan Reynolds and company again nailed the right tone and put forth a sequel superior to the original. Again, that's just me.
By now, I imagine that either you or someone you know will let the deaths of humans in movies slide, but you're more than ready to jump inside the screen and exact terrible vengeance if one brings harm to a dog, cat, or any other sort of four-legged friend.
Normally, we expect for movies making up the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to be announced to the public far in advance, but the studio has thus far remained tight-lipped regarding which films will be assigned to various theatrical dates that have been reserved beyond 2019. This is obviously in an effort not to spoil Avengers 4's outcome, but smart money says their hottest characters will continue receiving sequels in the coming years.
While we each have our favorite entry in the Friday the 13th film franchise – and Kane Hodder actually has one of his own as well – I must admit that mine is Jason X. Sure, there may be the purists among you that scoff at the idea of sending Jason Voorhees into space, but I believe there’s a beauty in the absurdity of it all – and there’s also the fact that I believe it contained some of Jason’s best kills overall.
If the upcoming live action Titans series can say it has anything going for it, it's that the show boasts what this writer feels to be the best Robin costume to have ever been worn by a flesh-and-blood actor. Sure, Burt Ward's uniform worked for his time and Chris O'Donnell's duds were alright if you took away the nipples and obscenely detailed codpiece, but this is what I and likely many other fans have been waiting for.
While the upcoming Birds of Prey film may be shrouded in mystery for the most part, a few interesting details have come to light in recent memory. Perhaps the most important of those is that Harley Quinn and Batgirl are supposedly the central characters in the female-driven team-up picture.
Though 2018 certainly has several more superhero movies to serve up, the mighty Marvel Studios now happens to be done for the year. With Ant-Man and the Wasp's opening weekend behind us, attention will turn toward 2019's Captain Marvel and Avengers 4, the latter of which we could easily dub "the Big One."
