If there’s one thing that Marvel's Netflix initiative has excelled at, it’s making household names out of characters who were largely unfamiliar to the mainstream before they showed up in their current iterations. Think about it: Only Daredevil and the Punisher had really enjoyed major pop culture exposure in years prior, with Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones having been relatively unknown to those who didn’t read comics. There have been animated appearances, sure, but those are a little more "niche," so to speak.
One of the many beautiful things about the Green Lantern Corps is that it's made up by thousands of ringslingers policing the cosmos, thus it gives storytellers in any medium a wealth of characters from which to pick. Naturally, folks from Earth tend to be the central focus, so it's quite fortunate that the likes of Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, Guy Gardner, Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz all hail from the same blue ball as the rest of us.
Though 2018 has certainly given me a bunch of superhero movies to look forward to, Blumhouse Productions' upcoming Halloween sequel has to be among my most anticipated of any genre. I mean, I've been a lover of the franchise from a young age, but the fact that this addition to the saga serves as a followup to the 1978 original and disregards tales that have come since leaves me highly intrigued. In other words, I simply can't wait to see what changes to the mythos have been made, and how the story plays out.
In the past fifteen years or so, the undead have dominated pretty much every facet of pop culture, be it in movies, TV, video games, or comic books. That said, I must confess to being among the ilk who’ve grown tired of flesh-eaters, barring some sort of refreshing take on the sub-genre.
One element that has set Deadpool comics apart from the majority of everything else out there is that of the Merc with a Mouth's penchant for breaking the fourth wall. In fact, his self-awareness and referencing what happens in specific issues have even carried over to the movies.
Even though Warner Bros. have finally begun exposing moviegoers to what the DC Universe has to offer beyond Superman and Batman in our current decade, one element that I'd like to see generously expanded upon is that of anything pertaining to ringslingers. That said, you can probably imagine I'm a strong advocate for Green Lantern Corps seeing the light of day. I mean, 2011's Green Lantern showed us the tip of the iceberg, but it just didn't resonate with audiences.
Despite talk surrounding Zack Snyder's fabled cut of Justice League showing no signs of ceasing, the auteur continues sharing content stemming from his time shooting the big team-up flick. Based on the amount of changes that Joss Whedon and the studio made from the original vision, one can only assume that we've been witness to a modern day parallel of the situation involving Richard Donner and Richard Lester on Superman II. That said, we can only hope it doesn't take a quarter century or so for us to see what could've been.
Though there isn't much to speak of at the moment when it comes to whatever Titans' plot will entail, we seem to be getting a better idea of what to expect as the weeks pass. Heck, just earlier today, we learned that none other than Superboy will likely show up in the season finale!
As members of Black Lightning's cast continue making their press rounds, it's only expected that they be asked about crossing over with the Arrowverse at large. Granted, it's not out of the question and could very well happen at some point, but series lead Cress Williams recently told us that he'd prefer to flesh out his own show's world before even entertaining the idea of a mashup - but he's not opposed to team-ups down the line.
If you're a huge fan of superhero animation like myself, then odds are you were floored earlier today when the second trailer for Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse hit the web. And if that weren't enough, we also learned Hailee Steinfeld is voicing the wildly popular Spider-Gwen!
