As per usual, the Arrowverse has opened up the DC Universe to a broader audience in the past year by introducing a fresh batch of characters to the mainstream. In the case of The Flash, we've met the likes of the Thinker, the Elongated Man and Amunet Black, to name but a few of the more memorable ones. And that's what's cool about the TV side of things: We get to meet all kinds of heroes and villains that the movies will likely never have the time to get around to presenting.
By now, you’re probably aware of how much footage didn’t make it into the version of Justice League that we ultimately received in theaters, thus leading to demand that the fabled Zack Snyder cut see the light of day. And while the home video release did indeed contain a few extra treats involving Superman, it’s one of DC’s other A-listers that we’re here to discuss today.
When we normally think of Superman duking it out with his quintessential villains, foes such as Lex Luthor, Zod, Brainiac, Doomsday and Darkseid are among the first that come to mind. Still, it's quite entertaining to see him pitted against atypical enemies from time to time, such as the Clown Prince of Crime himself in the Emperor Joker story arc, or even Black Adam in something like the unforgettable and appropriately titled animated short, Superman/Shazam: The Return of Black Adam.
Now that Avengers: Infinity War's opening weekend has come and gone, it’s important we not forget that Marvel Studios have one more offering arriving in 2018, that being Ant-Man and the Wasp. And though the latter probably won’t smash box office records like the former, it’s probably safe to say that it’ll still sell more than a few tickets.
After being forced to take a week off due to the NFL Draft, Gotham looks to make a strong return with "A Dark Knight: That Old Corpse" in a matter of days. And with only three episodes remaining in the current season, would you expect anything less than sheer intensity?
As you may know, this has been a strange month for those of us looking forward to the upcoming live action Titans series. I say that because none will soon forget those candid images featuring the likes of Starfire, Beast Boy and Raven that were taken during outdoor filming. Some came to the defense of the photos, sure, but I really don't care if they were wearing winter coats because everything else on display looked pretty bad.
While it may prove to be somewhat divisive to this day, we can't deny how Batman Returns has remained a fan favorite in the franchise. Yes, a fair amount of flicks have been released in the time since, but Tim Burton's second trip to Gotham City arguably had even more of the lauded director's fingerprints all over it, thus making for a truly dynamic viewing experience.
Despite so many films based on DC properties being in development, I can't help but notice the absence of Superman. Sure, I'm just as excited at the prospect of seeing Birds of Prey on the silver screen as the next guy, but I'm right there with those of you who are champing at the bit for a proper Man of Steel 2.
Aside from Avengers: Infinity War, Aquaman is the comic book movie that I’m most looking forward to this year because it’s something fresh. Sure, we may have paid a brief visit to Atlantis in Justice League, but this is a corner of the DC Extended Universe that is largely unexplored – and I can’t wait to see what director James Wan has in store for us.
With Arrow about to complete its sixth season in a matter of weeks, it seems like we the viewers should be focusing our attention on the final battle to come with Ricardo Diaz, but we've had this eleventh hour curveball thrown at us. We are, of course, talking about the matter concerning a returning Tommy Merlyn.
