When it comes to pop culture icons who've endured for decades upon decades and have subsequently been recast several times over, James Bond is most definitely up there with guys like Superman and Batman. In fact, moviegoers often can't wait for one actor to pass the torch before speculating on who'll replace them.
With the premiere episode of Gotham's fifth and final season now being just over two weeks away, Fox sure is kicking the hype machine into high gear. In recent memory, they've treated us to some cool character portraits, synopses for the first three installments, and even a full gallery of photos taken from "Year Zero" itself.
Had you tuned in for the incredible crossover that was "Elseworlds" last week, then you know how there was plenty to love about the three-night event. For now, though, we're going to focus on one major element, that being the return of John Wesley Shipp's version of the Flash from 1990 (and, subsequently, Earth-90).
Despite any misgivings moviegoers may have had with Venom, it appears that the cons were outweighed by the pros as the flick ultimately proved to be a box office powerhouse. Because of that, a followup within the next few years is more than likely.
Even though Gotham's fifth and final season has yet to premiere, the reality of its impending conclusion is really starting to set in. The reason I say that is because while we still have twelve more episodes to enjoy, filming has actually already wrapped on the Batman prequel series.
Now that the first leg of Arrow's seventh season is behind us, it's time to ponder what's to come. Already, Oliver Queen has gotten out of prison, we've seen the other Emerald Archer in town unmasked, and the "Elseworlds" crossover knocked off everybody's socks. Not a bad way to end 2018, if I may say so myself.
In the view of this writer, Swamp Thing is certainly poised for his next pop culture boom. I mean, not only have top talents such as Scott Snyder and Charles Soule penned his comic book adventures in recent years, but the Avatar of the Green has also made appearances in animated movies such as Justice League Dark and Batman and Harley Quinn. Come to think of it, fans of all ages have gotten a sampling thanks to Cartoon Network's Justice League Action.
It seems like only yesterday that Action Comics #1000 hit stands, thus observing 80 years of Superman being in continuous publication. As it so happens, the other half of the World's Finest duo, Batman, will get his turn in the spotlight when Detective Comics #1000 ships this coming spring.
Given all we've recently learned about Titans' season finale, I must say this is the most hyped I've been for a specific episode since "Jason Todd" - even if the ones focusing on Hawk and Dove were every bit as good. But when you factor in a Batman who's seemingly gone mad and is now knocking off supervillains, well, then color me intrigued.
After what was pretty much a decade of radio silence following production on Justice League Mortal being shut down, it was great to see all the info that trickled online earlier this year. Granted, it came at a price – that being the demise of a tell-all documentary chronicling the film’s ill-fated story – but we’re more than willing to reap the consolation prizes.
