New Starhawk Gameplay Footage
Sony announced this fully fledged sequel to one of PSN’s oldest and most understated games only earlier this month, and now suddenly we have over 11 minutes of very impressive gameplay to feast on. And ‘feast’ is definitely an appropriate metaphor. Starhawk is set to feature a full single player campaign as well as a natural successor to Warhawk’s signature cocktail of multiplayer massive-ness.

Modern Warfare 3: A Game Engine Tweaked, Improved, And Evolved
Infinity Ward’s creative strategist Robert Bowling has said via Twitter that the I-Ward/MW2 engine is still being used, and that the team have been adding major improvements to keep it up to the new FPS standards: "We haven't gone into detail on the engine yet but we've moved beyond the MW2 engine and added a lot of cool stuff for #MW3." DICE and EA seem to feel that Activision have been allowing the CoD franchise to become sloppy, and aren’t enthusing their development teams out of lazy annual iterations. Battlefield 3 is practically openly challenging MW3 (and every other shooter out there in fact) to deliver a game that can match the raw power their Frostbite 2 engine radiates.

Where Is Online Matchmaking Headed?
Finding a suitable, relatively lag-free, balanced multiplayer lobby is a task that millions of us gamers worldwide will spend a surprising amount of time facing. It’s one of the key navigational tools in the online universe and it is also one we almost take for granted now. Considering how far online gaming has come since the last generation of consoles, it’s incredibly interesting to see how joining a game-lobby has evolved, and how the standard and expectation has risen dramatically.

Modern Warfare 3 Worldwide (Official) Reveal May 23rd
It has been announced by Activision, via the Modern Warfare 3 Facebook page, that the worldwide premiere for the game will be this Monday in between the Western Conference Finals (us Brits actually have no idea what that means). Millions of viewers will be potentially catching their first nugget of gameplay ‘flashes’ during the big game in preparation for the E3 extravaganza.

Batman: Arkham City Boasts Roughly 40 Hours Of Content
In an interview with the Guardian, Rocksteady’s Sefton Hill explained how Batman: Arkham City will offer an impressive 25 hour-long straight narrative and a 15 hour treasure chest of optional side missions. This will be encouraging news for those of you who struggle to justify buying single-player- only games, with the industry standard averaging around 12-15 hours.

WET 2 Cancelled?
Behaviour Interactive have reportedly put an abrupt halt on development on the sequel to 2009’s less than perfect WET. Information on an ex-technical artist’s LinkedIn profile seems to suggest that the crazy and clunky action game will not be getting a big sequel as some (admittedly very few) had hoped.

Duke Nukem Forever: Behind The Scenes History Lesson And Demo Info
Gearbox and 2K Games have just released the second part to their behind the scenes glimpse of the Duke’s mega reboot, Duke Nukem Forever. The developers discuss the history of the franchise and the move to 3D back in 1996 (not the crazy expensive- funky glasses 3D mind). Plenty of strong opinions but not so much gameplay unfortunately.

Duke Nukem Forever First UK TV Trailer
This could very well be the most harmless trailer 2K games and their Duke of Nuke have produced for the upcoming reboot so far. It’s actually rather well done and it didn’t even have to draw on its notoriously popular/unpopular themes of sex jokes, over the top violence, or badass-ery.

The IP Shack #7: Obsessed With Social Gaming?
This discussion has been ongoing for many moons now, we briefly touched on the topic a while back in a more reflective article, but now the question arises again with more significance this time. With PSN experiencing the largest down time in its history, millions of gamers were suddenly unplugged from the online community and left in the dark for nearly a month. How did we all respond to that? Ridiculous and unfounded accusations of ‘addiction’ aside, it was a mightily revealing event for the gaming industry.
