The Crow director Alex Proyas' mythological fantasy adventure, Gods of Egypt, received quite a bit of backlash from those that felt the principal roles were whitewashed. The story deals with the battles between a bunch of fictional Egyptian deities, who would obviously have been... well, Egyptian in appearance - and yet the cast is made up of predominately white actors.
Next Tuesday, the highly anticipated midseason finale of Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. will air on ABC, and it promises to be an eventful one indeed. While the rest of the team formulate a plan to infiltrate the HYDRA fortress, a vengeful Coulson has followed Ward and Fitz through the portal to Maveth (probably not the strange blue planet's actual name, but that's what they've been referring to it as) and things are not looking good. At the end of the last episode, Coulson hit his head upon entry and is out of the game for the moment, leaving Ward to conduct his search while Fitz helps, under duress.
Another couple of TV spots for Star Wars: The Force Awakens have been released, and they contain quite a bit of new footage. The first is actually another extended Disney Channel promo, which mixes shots from the original trilogy with some snippets from the new film - the most interesting of which sees General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) share a smile with Daisy Ridley's Rey. A passing of the torch from the female lead of the classic movies to one for the new generation? Sure - but there might be a little more going on here, too.
Fox's official Twitter account for the Deadpool movie has posted a link for fans to gain access to the "Deadpool Core" - as in, CORPS, but "Deadpool wants no truck with fancy-cigar-smoking-pinstriped lawyers who wipe their boom-boom down with hundred dollar bills", so it's spelt differently.... or something. There's not a whole lot of information on the page at the moment, but we do get a pretty cool new promo image of the Merc with a Mouth, and the promise of some exclusive content if fans enter their email addresses.
Obviously the core characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe share the screen in the Avengers movies, but they also pop up from time time in each other's solo big screen outings - all except for a certain band of intergalactic a-holes, that is. The Guardians of the Galaxy exist within the main MCU, but because their adventures are set in space, it's a bit more difficult to have, say, Captain America drop in to borrow a cup of sugar. Then again, there are a couple of big Marvel players that could believably venture out into the cosmos; one of whom is the Mighty Thor.
It sounds like Marvel's Black Panther movie may have finally found its director. Back in October we heard a rumor that the studio was interested in Ryan Coogler to take the helm for T'Challa's solo big screen outing, but soon after that seemed to be debunked by the same source. Well, apparently there was some truth to it because now Birth.Movies.Death reports that the Creed director is actually in negotiations with Marvel after all.
Movie-based toys can often be completely misleading when it comes to what's actually depicted in the film, but from time to time they can give us a pretty good idea about plot points and character appearances, and that might just be the case with this action figure based on Jason Momoa's Aquaman from Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.
Marvel concept illustrator/visual development supervisor Andy Park occasionally posts some of his interesting unused character designs to his Twitter page. Recently he's been showcasing some alternate costume designs for Ant-Man hero Scott Lang, but his latest gives us an idea of how the villain of the piece could have looked.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has never been shy about cross-pollinating its characters, but Captain America: Civil War will mark the first time that both Cap (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) will appear together outside of one of the Avengers movies. These guys are considered to be Marvel's top dogs and both actors are used to headlining their own solo flicks - so what was it like for Downey Jr. to take somewhat of a backseat to Evans' titular Sentinel of Liberty?
Next Wednesday's episode of the CW's Arrow, "Dark Waters," is the show's midseason finale, and the network has been promoting it very specifically like we're going to lose a main character or two by the end of it. Of course, that's the smart thing to do when hyping up a pivotal installment of a long-running series, and there's every chance it won't happen - but this latest teaser definitely makes it seem like Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) is on her way out.
