Game Of Thrones Season 3 Blu-Ray Release Date Announced

I've said it many times before, but it definitely bears repeating: Game of Thrones is one of the best TV shows around. You could easily make the argument that it is THE best show currently on the air with its epic scope and skillful storytelling method that weaves together dozens of characters, locations, and plots. Basically, it has everything you could ever want in a show: drama, action, political intrigue, romance, mystery, suspense, surprise, and much, much more.

I’ve said it many times before, but it definitely bears repeating: Game of Thrones is one of the best TV shows around.

Today, we’ve received an official announcement as to the release of the third season on Blu-Ray, which will be hitting store shelves next year on February 18th, 2014. This shouldn’t really come as any surprise as the previous two season were also released around the same time period. We don’t have any word about the special features as of yet, but the official press release tells us that we should know all by the end of the year.

Along with the release date, we’ve also received word of a contest taking place that will determine the special edition covers of the upcoming release. The regular packaging will simply feature a dragon shadow (as seen below), but you’ll also have a chance to vote on what other box art you would like to see.

First, you have your choice of three different characters’ faces from the show: Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), Jon Snow (Kit Harington), or Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).  Second, you get to choose between the newer sigils of Tyrell, Tully, and Stannis Baratheon. Finally, you get to choose between the older sigils of Stark, Targaryen, and Lannister. Polling begins today on the Game of Thrones and Best Buy Facebook pages.

Season three really was quite a shocker, thanks of course to the infamous Red Wedding. It was even more surprising given how tame the season had seemed up to that point. I had yet to start reading the third book of the series prior to viewing this season, but in a way, I’m quite glad that I didn’t. My reaction to the events were on par with the montages that creeped onto the internet following the jaw-dropping events of “The Rains of Castamere.” However, as I mentioned earlier, surprise is one of the things that makes it such a great story.
