Harry and Meghan reportedly given an ultimatum by Netflix

Netflix wants the royal couple to work for the rest of their payment.

Despite their documentary achieving success on Netflix following its release last year, it seems the streaming giant didn’t pay Prince Harry and Meghan Markle the full sum of £81 million ($103 million) contract. Only half was given to them, and the royal couple will reportedly have to work if they want the rest of what was promised.

The Sun reported that the streaming giant gave the royal couple an ultimatum if they want to receive the full payment outlined above. Sources told the publication that apart from the success of their documentary, Harry & Meghan, the two would also have to produce “content of real interest.” Essentially, both Harry and Meghan have to come up with follow-up shows and other media that could drive audiences to the platform if they want to be paid the rest of what they’re owed.

Netflix released a statement to The Sun about this deal and said that it was “pleased” to sign the Royal couple and was still looking forward to some “great ideas.” This was in contrast to what was reported last week when an insider at the streaming giant claimed that the “lemon has been fully squeezed” and announced no plans to release a follow-up to the documentary.

“Netflix was pleased to sign Harry and Meghan and is looking for some great ideas going forward.

“But the remainder of the deal relies on them producing those good ideas. The deal’s continually under review which is normal for ones of this magnitude.”

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their representatives have yet to comment on this streaming ultimatum. However, the Duke of Sussex has a series titled Heart of Invictus that is set to be released in August. Meanwhile, the BBC reported that Markle’s animated series, Pearl, was dropped by the streaming giant as a cost-cutting measure.

It was reported that Netflix was happy with how Harry & Meghan turned out when it was released back in Dec. 2022. The documentary that told Prince Harry and Meghan’s story received 2.4 million views on its first day when the first three episodes were dropped on the platform.
