To briefly reiterate, fans went into a frenzy over the weekend when Marvel posted the numeral “4” on their Twitter account – only it was formed out of webs. This, of course, caused countless folks to ponder the possibility of the House of Ideas publishing a comic book based on Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 movie that never was. It also didn’t help matters when legendary artist Alex Ross shared a piece of his own related to the beloved film trilogy.

Well, it looks like we can probably put those hopes to bed – and likely any of those related to a Future Foundation reunion – because that “4” we spoke of was merely the beginning of a countdown. Since then, Marvel has followed that up with a “3” and a “2,” thereby signifying a big reveal is coming on Wednesday, June 19th.

For all they just put us through, whatever announcement they intend on making had better be worth it. I mean, who the hell begins a countdown at “4”? Why not “5”? For legal reasons, it’s for the better Marvel didn’t start at “6” because you have to admit that graphic design is a little too close to Resident Evil 6‘s logo for comfort.

Regardless, maybe this wasn’t for naught. If anything, this ordeal has proven readers would lay down money for a comic book adapting Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4. Knowing that John Malkovich and Anne Hathaway were attached to play the Vulture and Black Cat, respectively, will forever make us ponder that “what if” scenario. And until the publisher gets it off the ground, I’m sticking to my guns by saying it’d be a game-changer for the industry as a whole.
