4) Revamped Crucible

While Earth’s Guardians and the rest of the Vanguard have been a little preoccupied with surviving the Red Legion’s invasion – and subsequent destruction – of the Tower in Destiny 2‘s opening moments, Lord Shaxx, it seems, has been busy laboring away on giving the Crucible a facelift.

Clearly, the eccentric master of PvP ceremonies has no interest in the plight of the solar system, preferring instead to pit the Traveler’s disciples of Light against each other for the ultimate training exercise. Competitive multiplayer is, of course, the true end game for many players, so it makes sense for Bungie to ensure the formula isn’t just a simple cut-and-paste of what’s come before, but I’m not sure anyone expected a revamp of such magnitude.

The most immediately noticeable tweak is that every single mode is now restricted to 4v4. The downsizing may seem like a minute change on the surface, but as any beta participant can probably attest to, achieving victory in any given match now feels decidedly more reliant upon teamwork, rather than the lone wolf approach. New and returning objective-based modes only serve to further that agenda, with the likes of Countdown, Control and Survival all requiring coordination and awareness of the enemy’s whereabouts.

Put together, each of the new (and potentially improved) components make for a wholly different-feeling PvP formula, one we can’t wait to put through its paces.
