The Coalition has just released a brand new, 20-minute long gameplay video for the upcoming Gears of War 4 that goes back in time for a little storytelling of past events. Like the memorable prison break and nightmare flashback opening sequences from past entries, Gears of War 4‘s ambitious single-player campaign aims to begin with a bang by way of its initial Prologue mission that explores several pivotal moments from the series’ past.

Beginning with the ill-fated event that triggered the mobilization of Marcus Fenix and the rest of the COG military, players will be dropped straight into the thick of Emergence Day to experience mankind’s first encounter with the Locust horde before being whisked away to relive a “key battle from the Pendulum Wars.”

The Locust siege of Anvil Gate, Emergence Day at the House of Sovereigns and the COG’s raid on UIR forces to “secure the Hammer of Dawn technology at Aspho Fields,” are the three key conflicts you’ll be reliving in Gears of War 4‘s opening Prologue mission, all of which you can see in the trailer above.

Gears of War 4 launches exclusively for Xbox One and Windows 10 on October 11. Pre-ordering the third-person shooter from participating retailers or the Microsoft Store will secure you the “Brothers to the End” Elite Gear Pack – a bundle of unique character skins including Zombie Dom and Old Man Marcus. For those who consider yourselves to be diehard Gears fans, you’ll probably want to give this exclusive Xbox One S bundle a look.
