There have already been several different adaptations of the Aladdin story, but none of them follow the lines that the Disney film took.
For one, the Genie could be a much darker character, similar to the genie in the classic Thief of Bagdad, with more of the trickster in him. Furthermore, while we could see just a straight live-action adaptation, it would be even more interesting to play a gender-swap and have street urchin Jasmine proving her worth to Prince Aladdin, with the help of a genie in a bottle – or something to that effect.
With Disney’s current fervor for turning their princess narratives into feminist fantasies, Aladdin certainly has a lot to offer.

While Disney probably aren’t looking to remake their very first animated feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, any time soon (Snow White and the Huntsman beat them to the punch on that one), there is no reason they can’t redo their second movie instead.
Pinocchio is an age-old tale that perhaps surprisingly hasn’t had a big-screen adaptation in a while (though some have tried). Seeing as they made the most definitive version in 1940, Disney should get on with rebooting the story for a modern audience.
It was actually revealed last year that work has indeed begun on a live-action Pinocchio, with Robert Downey Jr. starring as Geppetto and producing with his wife, Susan Downey. Let’s wish upon a star that the Downeys’ involvement will get this one going sooner rather than later.
