10 Things We Learned From The New Spider-Man: Homecoming Trailer

This is one of the biggest years ever for the comic book movie genre. With the last appearance of Wolverine, the first solo movie for Wonder Woman and the assembly of the Justice League, it might have been hard for yet another Spider-Man movie to stand out. Thankfully, though, the first trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming that was released a few months ago got us hugely excited for it and somehow, the newly-released second trailer, which dropped this morning, is even better.

7) Vulture’s Motivations

Over the shot of the Damage Control news, Michael Keaton’s Vulture voices his hatred for Tony Stark: “The rich and the powerful, like Stark, they don’t care about us. The world’s changing, boys, it’s time we changed, too…”

This reveals a neat bit of backstory for the character and handily explains Toomes’ motivations for becoming a supervillain. Having been scorned by Stark and other rich guys, Adrian Toomes decides to play them at their own game. After getting his hands on his own Stark-like wearable tech – his winged suit – he starts a life of crime.

Though this is not made plain in the trailer, director Jon Watts has revealed that Toomes used to be in charge of clearing up after the Avengers. It’s likely, then, that Stark put him out of business when he sets up Damage Control. Having the supervillain be someone who had previously cleared up the Avengers’ messes – but is still treated poorly by them – is an interesting origin story and we look forward to seeing it play out in the movie.
