After voting to return Deadpool, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men to their rightful owner late last month – amongst other IP – the pending amalgamation between The Walt Disney Company and 21st Century Fox hasn’t exactly instilled the same level of optimism for those of us looking beyond the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

For those of you who don’t know, last week, a new report from The Wall Street Journal indicated that while Disney does intend to explore both the big and small screen potential of their recently purchased property, the Mouse House will be looking to “scale back production of costly movies that don’t fit its family-friendly, franchise-focused formula.”

Unfortunately, the article did not name names, but you can rest assured franchises like Predator and Alien will undoubtedly suffer under the new regime. That said, the Mouse House doesn’t have control of either extraterrestrial killing machine just yet, and as a result, the latter might be getting a 4K UHD release for its fortieth anniversary.

That’s right, according to Bloody Disgusting, Ridley Scott’s Alien – originally released back in 1979 – could be headed to 4K Ultra HD sometime in April of 2019. The Czech retailer FilmArena has the sci-fi masterpiece listed for a Steelbook and 3D release as well, which will include an “Alien Maniacs” collection comprised of both the theatrical and director’s cut of the film.

To clarify though, this is not 100% confirmed as of yet, but again, given the fast-approaching fortieth anniversary of Alien, the release would make complete sense and would surely put a smile on the face of those fans looking to revisit the classic in the highest definition possible.
