Avengers: Infinity War Teaser Doesn’t Spoil Thor: Ragnarok

Even if you weren't fortunate enough to attend San Diego Comic-Con last weekend, I think we can all agree that superhero fans were spoiled regardless of where they found themselves. At the very least, we all got to see one supremely impressive trailer for Thor: Raganarok, while those in Hall H saw the first footage to be screened from Avengers: Infinity War as well. Actually, the latter briefly leaked onto the internet, so count yourself as lucky if you viewed it before it was taken down.

Even if you weren’t fortunate enough to attend San Diego Comic-Con last weekend, I think we can all agree that superhero fans were spoiled regardless of where they found themselves.

Now, if you were one of those who did see the teaser from the third Avengers flick, then you’d know about how Thor was spotted on the very same ship as the Guardians of the Galaxy. That said, many True Believers feared that Ragnarok had been spoiled in some way, and they certainly have a valid point.

In an attempt to get to the bottom of this, Cinema Blend caught up with director Taika Waititi at SDCC, asking him if indeed the footage displayed at that show and D23 in any way let the cat out of the bag. Here’s what he had to say:

“Oh, in the other thing? It is not a spoiler.”

On the one hand, he’s reasonably correct. When you really think about it, showing the Odinson hanging out with the “A-holes” does nothing to spoil whether Asgard met its end at the hand of Hela, the final fate of Loki or whatever becomes of the Hulk. Really, all it does is tell us that Thor meets up with the Guardians crew at some point in the next team-up film.

But on the other, it doesn’t refute reports of a possible post-credits scene involving Star-Lord and company. After all, these characters are going to need some way to join the rest of the heroes combating Thanos on Earth, and we know nothing of the condition the Bifrost will be left in.

Thor: Ragnarok opens in theaters on November 3.
