When the announcement for the Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated movie hit the web yesterday morning, I think we were all taken off-guard – but in a good way. After all, it wasn’t until the these entities came together in comic books a few years back that a possible meeting had only previously existed whenever kids mixed and matched their action figures.

As of right now, not too many plot details have been disclosed, but on the plus side, though, it’s been revealed that the Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book miniseries written by James Tynion IV and illustrated by Freddie Williams II will serve as the source material. Knowing that, we can expect for the flick to hit many of the same beats found in the transdimensional crossover if indeed the filmmakers adhere close to the literature.

My best guess is that we have a month or so before Warner Bros. begins sending out the official press releases detailing what’ll go into the home video packages, but for now, yet another image from the movie has emerged. Seen below, this cool shot of the Dark Knight descending on the Heroes in a Half-Shell comes courtesy of the AV Club.

Had you read the aforementioned comic, then you’ll know Batman doesn’t necessarily get along with these guys at first. Given that, there should be an exhilarating fight scene involving the protagonists before they eventually put aside their differences and focus their energies on Joker, Ra’s al Ghul and other villains.

At the moment, Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hasn’t been given a concrete release date, but it’s said to arrive on Blu-ray, 4K UHD and Digital this spring. Considering that Justice League vs. The Fatal Five hits shelves in April, smart money says this historic mashup will likely come in May – much like how Batman Ninja did last year.
