Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead’s Spring gets to pull double duty in 2015, since it already topped my Best Of 2015 Horror list posted not too long ago. It’s one of two films I gave a perfect 5/5 to, and it’s more than deserving. These two indie geniuses throw together a film that’s both tender and terrifying, heartwarming and horrifying. “Linklater meets Lovecraft” says it all, which translates to a sweet romance between two star-crossed lovers that’s interrupted by a squeamish creature-feature. Love is a monster, and we see it in it’s true form.

Love isn’t all horror, though. Spring is more about the crazy things we do for love, and how its hold knows no boundary. Lou Taylor Pucci and Nadia Hilker form a tremendous chemistry while they galavant about the Italian coastline, spilling blood while spreading their endless devotion to one another. Horror fans need good date movies too, and Spring is the perfect candidate for a wonderful Valentine’s Day watch. A soulful script, sprawling cinematography, and strong sense of persona – what else can you ask for?
