Kevin Feige Says A Spider-Man/Venom Team-Up Movie Is Likely

Ever since Tom Hardy starred in last October’s Venom, fans have wondered whether the symbiotic superhero would clash with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in a future movie. The two Toms themselves have maintained that they’d be up for it, but the real decision has to come from the studios involved with those two characters: Sony, who owns both, and Marvel, who’ve had Spidey lent to them by Sony.

Well, we’ve now got some big news on this front, as it’s apparently likely that a Spider-Man/Venom movie will happen. And this comes to us from the most trustworthy source: Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. CinemaBlend caught up with the EP and asked him about the chances of it coming to fruition and while he couldn’t confirm or deny anything, the producer did say that it seems likely.

“I think probably it’s up to Sony. Sony has both those characters and, has Venom in their world. I don’t know what their plans are for another Venom or if they’re doing that. But it seems likely at some point.”

Feige isn’t typically this forthcoming about Marvel’s plans for the future, so presumably we can take this to mean that his studio wouldn’t have anything to do with a Spidey/Venom team-up, much like Venom was completely Sony’s own baby. By the sounds of it then, don’t expect to see Eddie Brock in Spider-Man 3 but do watch out for the wall-crawler in Venom 2

These comments potentially gel with previous reports as well which claimed that, as per the terms of their agreement over the character, Marvel has to let Sony borrow Spider-Man for their own movies if they want to use him. We’re not totally clear though on if this refers to Holland’s specific version or if Sony might cast their own alternate Spidey.

In any case, last we heard, Venom 2 was definitely in development, but Sony may need to find a new director to replace Ruben Fleischer. Meanwhile, Peter Parker returns in Spider-Man: Far From Home, coming to theaters on July 2nd.
