Hail Hydra As Marvel Teases Captain America Event Series Secret Empire

When it was first revealed that Captain America is now evil, fans were not happy. It was the Red Skull who used a cosmic cube to change his past and make him a secret member of the villainous organisation he's spent his life opposing, and since then, we've seen Steve Rogers plotting against both his fellow Avengers and his boss as he looks to make Hydra his own.

When it was first revealed that Captain America is now evil, fans were not happy. It was the Red Skull who used a cosmic cube to change his past and make him a secret member of the villainous organization he’s spent his life opposing, and since then, we’ve seen Steve Rogers plotting against both his fellow Avengers and his boss as he looks to make Hydra his own.

Now, with Civil War II finished and Inhumans vs. X-Men only just kicking off, Marvel is already teasing their next big event (after Monsters Unleashed). Titled Secret Empire, plot details and the creative team are being kept under wraps, but the teaser image below was accompanied with a quote from Abraham Lincoln: “A House Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand.”

It sounds like the Hydra storyline will reach a head then, and it’s worth noting that “Secret Empire” is actually the name of a sub-faction of Hydra which was used to engage S.H.I.E.L.D. as a distraction from what else the organization was up to. Whether or not that will come into play here remains to be seen, but Captain America’s evil ways may be about to be exposed.

With any luck, he’ll end up reverting to his heroic self by the time all is said and done, but with Civil War II showing Captain America dead at the hands of Miles Morales in a possible future, we could be looking at yet another death for the iconic hero here.
