Trump urges New Yorkers to vote for Blakeman, calls Hochul ‘worst governor’ in history of the state

There is a study about Hochul being the "worst governor" in New York history.

U.S. President Donald Trump quickly attacked Democratic gubernatorial candidate Kathy Hochul, labeling her “the worst governor” in New York history ahead of the November midterm elections, as first reported by the New York Post. Trump made a last-minute appeal to New Yorkers, urging them to vote for Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman, Attorney General candidate Saritha Komatireddy, and upstate congressional hopeful Anthony Constantino.

“Kathy Hochul may be the worst governor in the history of New York State and one of the worst in the nation,” Trump said during a tele-rally. “Anybody that can do what he did in politics and get resounding results, and not only that, he has the safest county in the United States of America [according to US News & World Report] … He’s a great manager.” The commander-in-chief likely referencing a new study found in the Cato Institute’s 2026 “Freedom in the 50 States” list, where Hocuhl ranked the worst state leader in the US for protecting constituents’ freedoms, scoring an “F” and falling behind the governors from Hawaii, California, Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

“I’ll be waiting for his call,” Trump added. “I bet he’s going to be one of the first calls if he wins, and he’ll get tremendous help from the federal government. And it’s hard to help people that do such a bad job. It’s almost like throwing good money after bad.”

The attack continues against Hochul

Trump previously criticized Hochul’s handling of crime during a campaign event in Long Island last August. “Kathy Hochul has been very very bad on crime — a nightmare for crime,” Trump said, as reported by the New York Times. “Bruce, if you lose you are going to be ashamed for the rest of your life!”

Hochul spokesperson Ryan Radulovacki responded by portraying Trump as a political threat. Radulovacki said, “Blakeman … started with the promise to ‘bring Trump-style leadership to Albany,’ and his closing message is telling people how little he regrets going full Trump in this campaign. Gov. Hochul has put money back in New Yorkers’ pockets, invested $4 billion in public safety, and fought back against Trump’s attacks,” while Blakeman “defends everything Trump does.”

Hochul has received multiple attacks this past week, including from American rapper Nicki Minaj. “Kathy Hochul is an evil woman,” she wrote in her post on X. “The Democratic Party should forfeit her seat because even if she wins, she will be of great consequence to them. Downward spiral for her. She will not escape God’s wrath. She did not denounce evil when she had the chance.” Hochul responded to the Grammy-nominated musician’s remarks at a campaign stop in Albany, New York. “I think she ought to get outside and get offline a little more. And stop going to Trump rallies because it’s poisoning your mind.” Recent Marist poll showing Hochul ahead by 11 to 14 points over Blakeman.
