Donald Trump boasts about how much Israel loves him, says: ‘If people ever got tired of me in the US, I’ll move to Israel and become prime minister’

They really like him over there.

Donald Trump has indicated that if he can’t be President of the United States anymore, he would make an excellent Prime Minister of Israel. Speaking on Fox & Friends this morning, Trump boasted about his sky-high approval ratings there: “I’m at 99% approval in Israel!“

Trump went on to jokingly tease that “if” Americans get sick of seeing him, he may have a bright political future in the Middle East: “If people ever got tired of me in the US, I’ll move to Israel and become prime minister.”

It should be underlined that Trump is obviously joking. Even if he weren’t, he would face a steep legal climb to ever become Israel’s leader. For example, any Israeli PM must also be a member of the Knesset (he isn’t), to become an MP he must be an Israeli citizen (he’s not), he must also live in Israel (he doesn’t), and he must renounce his American citizenship (unlikely).

Seems like a good place for him

But Trump is right that his approval ratings are far higher in Israel than they are in the United States. Per a survey by All Israel News, 69% of Israelis agreed that Trump is “the friendliest U.S. president toward Israel ever.” His approval rose to 72% among just Israeli Jews and 59% among Israeli Arabs.

But 72% is a long way from Trump’s claim that he’s “at 99% approval,” which no poll has ever found and appears to be a wild exaggeration. Perhaps he’s a little closer if you divide the electorate by political inclinations, with the poll showing that a full 95% of right-wing Israelis approve of Trump.

While Trump probably won’t ever become the leader of Israel, they have garlanded him with praise for his stalwart support. In October 2025 Trump was awarded Israel’s highest civilian honor, the Israeli Presidential Medal of Honor. This was awarded in recognition of Trump’s steadfast support for Israel, his contributions to Israeli national security, and his support of military action in Gaza. There will be a ceremony at a future date to officially award it to him.

Trump has also won the Israel Prize in April 2026, described as the country’s top civilian/cultural honor. He is, to date, the only non-Israeli to receive the Prize, with the award noting his recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and his support for the Abraham Accords. Trump can also add the Israel Heritage Foundation’s “Crown of Jerusalem” award to his list of accolades.
