Trump sparks third and even fourth term fears once more after boldly stating he’ll be out of office in ‘eight or nine years from now’

Donald Trump wants to be president until he's nearly 90.

With all the chaos brought about by Donald Trump it’s easy to forget some of the more insane things he and his MAGA cronies have said during the president’s second term. Last year Trump and his supporters toyed with the idea of him staying in office for a third term. Until recently it looked like that idea had been dropped, but it’s clear now that isn’t the case.

Trump is soon turning 80, but he isn’t letting his old age dampen his future plans, which apparently include staying in office until he’s nearly 90. While hosting business leaders at the White House this week the president began boasting about his physical and mental fitness, something which we’re all no doubt sick of hearing about now.

While talking about a legislative provision allowing businesses to deduct costs of new facilities Trump let slip that he may be intending to keep his position as leader of the free world for almost another decade. “When I get out of office in, let’s say, eight or nine years from now, I’ll be able to use it. I’ll be able to use it myself.”

We’ve covered this many times now, but we might as well reiterate just how unconstitutional this is. The 22nd Amendment prevents a president from staying on past a second term, no ifs or buts, it’s two terms max, anything else would be going against the Constitution.

Is Donald Trump going to ignore the Constitution?

Of course, Trump and his followers don’t care about the Constitution, with people like Steve Bannon openly admitting that they were looking into ways around the two-term limit. What’s even more concerning is that a Trump judicial nominee refused to rule out the possibility of a third term after Senator Chris Coons asked whether the president could run again.

When Sen. Coons opened the question up to the rest of the room he was met with complete silence. When asked a direct question, they remained silent, not wanting to contradict what Trump was saying. One person on X compared what is happening in the U.S. to North Korea, “When the Independent Judiciary is too scared to say the sky is blue unless the Supreme Leader says it’s ok…”

This all points to the fact that many MAGA individuals haven’t let go of the promise of a third term. If Trump really stays in office for another nine years he’ll be well into a fourth term. While his delusions are certainly a concern, we might not have to worry, Trump’s approval rating are lower than they have ever been and he’s on very thin ice. At the rate he’s going, it’s difficult to imagine him making it to the end of his second term .
