A TikTok user said he called 911 after another driver nearly hit his car on the highway and then began what he described as repeated brake checks and swerving. Dylan Peroutka shared the story in a TikTok video posted with the on-screen caption “See you in court my love.” He told viewers this was the fourth time he had called 911 in his 24 years of life and that it happened on a Wednesday evening around 7:30 p.m.
Peroutka explained in the video that he had been working for about a year and a half and that his hours ran from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. He said he left work at 7:30 p.m., got into his car, turned on music by Halsey, and headed home on a highway that is normally quiet after 7 p.m. He stated he was driving in the left lane when another car began tailgating him closely.
He claimed the other driver then moved to the right lane and tried to cut into a very small gap in front of him. Peroutka said he had to slam on his brakes and that the car behind him also had to brake hard. He stated that he briefly honked his horn in response.
TikTok user details alleged brake checks and 911 call after highway incident
Peroutka said the other driver reacted by repeatedly stopping in the middle of the highway and brake-checking him. He claimed his car’s automatic brakes engaged more than once and that he almost went through the windshield. He stated he then held his horn for about 20 seconds to alert other drivers.
He described the other car later swerving into his lane and slamming on the brakes again in what he said appeared to be an attempt to get him to hit them. Peroutka stated that after another near-collision, he decided to call 911 while still driving. He said he told the operator the other driver seemed drunk and was driving erratically, nearly causing multiple pileups.
Peroutka claimed he was near exit 24 and that he took multiple photos of the other car’s license plate while on the phone. He said the other driver eventually got off at an exit, stopped, rolled down the window, and began throwing items out of the car. He described the vehicle to the operator as a “white beat up ugly a** car.”
He stated he gave the operator the license plate number, the exit location, and the make, model, and color of the car. Peroutka said authorities told him they would look for the driver and call him about next steps. He added that if he is given the option to press charges, he will.
Peroutka said he normally avoids calling 911 because police make him uneasy, but he felt the situation had gone too far. He claimed the other driver’s actions put other motorists at risk, including any families that might have been on the road. The video ends with him wishing the other driver good luck. Reckless driving can have serious consequences, as seen when a North Carolina driver caught backing into cars allegedly then accelerated into another vehicle.
Viewers offered a range of reactions to the described encounter. One commenter shared a personal realization about highway rules after watching the video, writing, “I found out the other day that it’s illegal to stay in the left lane is illegal…the hard way.” Another viewer focused on the horn used during the incident and stated, “exactly why i’m getting a train horn.” A third commenter questioned the other driver’s decision to tailgate, writing, “No because why are you tailgating me when I’m going over the speed limit.”
A fourth viewer recommended a practical step for similar situations and said, “Do you have a dash cam? If not I’d highly recommended getting one. Because if you had video they was break checking they’d be at fault.” Video evidence has proven useful in other incidents too, such as a parked GMC allegedly hit by a driver that was captured on camera.
