Construction crews working on a private plot in the village of Lutoryż, located near the city of Rzeszów in southeastern Poland, recently made a discovery that has shaken the local community. While digging to renovate a driveway on the 5-acre property, workers unearthed what has been confirmed as the remains of 32 human fetuses, alongside a significant amount of hazardous medical waste.
Per TVP World, a Polish International News Network, the land was previously owned by a 57-year-old pathologist, identified by local media as Magdalena H. She was taken into custody by authorities on June 12 in Zamość, eastern Poland, as investigators began the process of determining exactly how these remains ended up buried beneath the soil.
As reported by The U.S. Sun, the property is currently occupied by a young couple who had purchased the 5-acre plot from Magdalena H. about six months ago. They were renovating the property, for which the crew was brought in. Once the excavator struck the buried materials, the site was quickly cordoned off and transformed into a full-scale forensic zone.
The remains weren’t the only thing found
Krzysztof Ciechanowski, a spokesperson for the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Rzeszów, provided a statement, per Euro News, regarding the initial findings. “On 10 June 2026, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Rzeszów was notified that significant quantities of items constituting medical waste, mainly paraffin blocks and microscope slides, had been uncovered on a property in the village of Lutoryż,” he explained.
“According to the findings so far, these items were discovered during groundworks carried out on the property. Among the waste uncovered were a human foetus and other remains believed to be those of early-stage foetuses or foetal fragments. Expert medical examiners were sent to the scene and confirmed that the secured remains are the remains of human foetuses.”
Investigators have reportedly been working tirelessly at the scene, in teams with white protective suits, sifting through the earth and using heavy machinery to search for further evidence. Reports indicate that police found various medical materials, including tubes, containers, and documents that appear to be hospital records.
There is a prevailing theory among investigators that the pathologist may have buried the remains to cut costs, rather than following the legal protocols for disposing of medical waste. Some reports have suggested that the suspect claimed she took the fetuses from a hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic to use them for medical research at her home.
Prosecutors are currently working to verify these claims and determine if she acted alone or if others were involved in the handling and disposal of the materials. The investigation currently centers around the desecration of human remains and the illegal storage of hazardous waste. The most serious offense currently being cited by prosecutors carries a potential prison sentence of up to 12 years.
The US Sun noted that Neighbors described Maghndelna H as reclusive and a bit strange. One local resident noted, “I don’t even know what this woman does. I knew her by sight.” Another man recalled, “I remember that woman, but she hasn’t been here for about five years. She supposedly performed some autopsy here, but I don’t know for sure.”
According to information provided to Euro News, the suspect was scheduled to be questioned by the prosecutor, but the process was interrupted. She reported feeling unwell during the procedures and required medical assistance, leading to her being transported to a hospital.
The work to clear the property and identify every piece of evidence is expected to continue through next week, and per reports, Investigators are checking if there are other potential burial sites. They are also looking into whether the pathologist, who allegedly performed autopsies, maintained a private practice that has since disappeared from public records.
As the investigation moves forward, officials are said to be focused on determining the full scale of the disposal and ensuring that all legal procedures are followed to address this situation.
