Oklahoma mother sentenced to 7 life terms after her 11-year-old gives birth to stepfather’s baby in home prosecutors call ‘uninhabitable’

The husband got one life term. The wife got seven.

Content warning: This article discusses child sexual abuse and neglect.

Cherie Walker, an Oklahoma woman whose 11-year-old daughter recently gave birth to her stepfather’s baby, will serve seven more life terms than the man who sexually abused her daughter. A judge handed down the sentence on October 30, 2026, according to KOKH.

The girl delivered the baby inside the family’s Muskogee house in August 2025, and emergency crews were called there afterward. She had no prenatal care and had gone over a year without seeing a doctor, per what the prosecutors told KOKH. Testing by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation later identified the father as Dustin Walker, her stepfather and Cherie Walker’s husband.

The prosecutors claim that the mother understood what her husband was doing to the girl and didn’t step in. Jurors convicted her on July 17, 2026, of six counts of child neglect, tied to the six children living in the house. There was one count of enabling child sexual abuse, KJRH reported. The judge gave her a life term on each count, to be served one after another. Dustin Walker entered a guilty plea in March 2026, and in June, he got 42 years on six neglect counts, to be served before one life term for sexual abuse of a child under 12, per KJRH. That leaves his wife with six more life terms than he received.

The neglect reached every child in the house

The counts of neglect were not due to sexual abuse, but to the conditions of the house. It had neither running water nor air conditioning, and prosecutors found urine and feces all over it. A pediatrician who examined each of the six children said they were underweight and had lice and serious dental problems. As for the abuse, it began when the girl was 10.

Janet Hutson, one of the prosecutors, said the pediatrician testified that “particularly during the last trimester, anyone would have known this child was pregnant.” The family had earlier claimed that no one realized the girl was expecting. What’s more, child welfare workers tried more than once to get into the home during the pregnancy and were refused entry each time.

Under Oklahoma law, child neglect and enabling child sexual abuse each carry up to life in prison, which is how all seven of Cherie Walker’s counts drew a life term. “We know her husband is the father, but we had to prove she knew and allowed it,” Hutson reported. According to a report by KJRH, six counts of child neglect are also pending against the girl’s grandmother.
