At the beginning of 2019, it looked like we’d seen the last of Peggy Carter in the MCU. But then Avengers: Endgame happened and gave us that emotional happy ending for Captain America in which Steve went back to the past and reunited with his lost love. But is that the actual end for Hayley Atwell in the franchise?
Well, maybe not, as a new report claims that she’ll be reprising her fan favorite role yet again, in the final season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. FandomWire – which has proven to have some very reliable intel of late – says that Atwell will return for the upcoming seventh run of the outgoing ABC series.
The show recently wrapped its sixth season and – spoilers incoming – ended things with Coulson (now an LMD copy of the original) and the gang journeying back to the 1930s. This can’t be the decade they meet Peggy, as she would’ve been a child at the time, but FandomWire theorizes that there could be another time jump that allows for them to encounter her in the Agent Carter post-War era.
Speaking of Agent Carter, the first clue we got that a crossover with the much-missed spinoff was coming came thanks to an Instagram post from Ming-Na Wen last week. In a snap of the cast’s personalized bikes on set, one was labelled as belonging to Enver Gjokaj – who played Peggy’s love interest Daniel Sousa on Agent Carter.
It seems that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. won’t just be wrapping up its own show in its final season then, but also tying up loose ends caused by the aforementioned series’ cancellation following its second year. Fingers crossed they’ve got James D’Arcy – who also turned up in Endgame – back as Edwin Jarvis, too!
