Anson Mount Reacts To The Petition For A Captain Pike Star Trek: Discovery Spinoff

If you've enjoyed seeing Captain Christopher Pike calling the shots on season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery, we've got some bad news for you, as Anson Mount's due to depart the CBS All Access series at the end of this current run. It's not because the actor wants to leave, however, but rather it's the writers looking to swap who's sitting in the captain's chair of the U.S.S. Discovery every season.

Fans aren’t ready to say goodbye to Mount’s charismatic hero just yet though and in fact, many are now calling for the show’s producers to give him a spinoff, which would follow Pike’s adventures on board the Enterprise in the years preceding James T. Kirk’s tenure on the ship. That wouldn’t be hard to do, either, as Discovery has already introduced us to two of his most important crew members in the form of Ethan Peck’s Spock and Rebecca Romijn’s Number One.

In fact, fans are so into this idea that a petition has already been started, and here’s how the description puts it over on Change.org:

“Millions of Trekkies, both young and old, have absolutely loved Anson Mount’s (Pike) and Ethan Peck’s (Spock) portrayal of these iconic Star Trek characters. While we’ve enjoyed their performances on Discovery – we know its coming to an end…and we want more! Consider adding another Star Trek series to your line up starring these two great actors.”

It seems that Mount has caught wind of the petition as well and understandably, is pretty flattered by it. Taking to Facebook, here’s what the actor shared:

“I am humbled and deeply touched by this amount of love. I have NEVER received such gratitude. Please know that my own gratitude at having been given the opportunity to walk in Captain Pike’s boots is equaled only by that which I feel for the Trek family’s devotion. Seriously, thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Of course, none of this is to say that CBS will actually give the fans what they’re asking for and start developing a Star Trek: Discovery spinoff for Captain Pike, but we know that the network is super keen on expanding the franchise any way they can and giving Mount’s beloved character his own vehicle would certainly be a good way to do that.
