Jujutsu Kaisen is back for a second season as of tomorrow! After just over two years since the end of the first one, with a film to tide us over in the middle, the popular anime is finally back to continue the quest for Sukuna’s fingers and hopefully a way out for Yuji that involves a little less… death. So here is what we can expect from the upcoming season, as well as how many episodes it may have.
We were introduced us to a tonne of characters in the first season, but none have been as popular as Satoru Gojo, the extremely powerful sorcerer and troublemaker. The second season will delve into his character a little more, kicking off by adapting the manga’s Gojo Past arc. This arc will, and no prizes for guessing this correctly, looks into Gojo’s past as well as his relationship with Suguru Geto, his friend-turned-enemy. This arc with cover chapters 65-79 in the manga and has been confirmed to run for five episodes by the anime’s Twitter.
A synopsis for the first episode has been dropped on the Jujutsu Kaisen official website showing how the anime plans to take us to the past.
“Utahime and Meimei, sorcerors, are sent to investigate a Western-style house where many people have gone missing. After infiltrating the Western-style house and discovering the warding techniques of the cursed spirits, the two take action to break the wards, but suddenly the building begins to collapse. The two are thrown into the air, and at that moment, what appears before their eyes is… 2006. It is the year 2006, and the two strongest people in the world begin a blue spring from which there is no return.”

This arc will run from July 7 to August 3 followed by two filler episodes which will recap the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie as well as the first season. There will then be a one-week break before jumping into the Shibuya Incident arc, which will air from August 31. We don’t know how long the Shibuya Incident arc will last at this point but is adapted from chapters 79-136 from the manga.
Given that season one had a total of 24 episodes, it is expected that the second season will follow in a similar vein, likely having 24-26 episodes.
You can watch episode one as of July 6 on either Crunchyroll or Netflix.
