In the promo for the next episode of Supergirl, it was heavily teased that Lex Luthor would finally be making an appearance in The CW series. Unfortunately, we now know that’s not the case as a new batch of images reveal that it’s actually her mother that Lena is visiting. However, with Metallo set to break the CADMUS leader out, Lex may still have some company behind bars.

As you can see, Lena (who’s served as an ally to the Girl of Steel so far) ends up being imprisoned when she’s blamed for that, and while there’s a very good chance she’s innocent, you have to believe this could sour the budding friendship between her and Supergirl.

For more on what to expect from this episode – titled “Luthors” – here’s the officially released synopsis:

After Metallo (guest star Frederick Schmidt) breaks out of prison and frees Lillian Luthor (guest star Brenda Strong), the police blame Lena (guest star Katie McGrath) for his escape and arrest her. Despite overwhelming evidence, Kara (Melissa Benoist) refuses to believe her friend is guilty and fights to clear Lena’s name. Flashbacks reveal how Lena came to be a Luthor. Meanwhile, Alex (Chyler Leigh) introduces Maggie (Floriana Lima) to the gang. Tawnia McKiernan directed the episode written by Robert Rovner and Cindy Lichtman.

Chances are that we won’t ever see Lex make his presence felt here, so Lena taking on a villainous role could be the next best thing. After all, it would give the series the chance to explore a new Super/Luthor dynamic, and the show is in desperate need of a big bad who can rival the likes of Reverse-Flash and Deathstroke.

Whether or not a turn to the dark side is in the cards for Lena is unclear right now, but expect this episode of Supergirl to potentially set the stage for such a thing.
