Rick and Morgan in The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead Season 8 Finale Will Have Plenty Of Death

It's been an emotional ride, full of moderate highs and tragic lows, but the Alexandrians and their allies' battle against Negan and his Saviors is almost at an end. The "All-Out War" storyline which has provided the backbone of the past year of AMC's zombie drama will come to a close when The Walking Dead season 8 finale reaches us next week. And if fans think that it'll be a smooth ride, they better think again.

According to ComicBook.com, the episode will bring with it “plenty of death.” Unfortunately, there’s not much else to go on other than that, and there aren’t any hints as to who may end up meeting their maker, but given that this is The Walking Dead we’re talking about, literally anyone could be on the chopping block. After all, as Carl’s death showed us, no one’s safe on this show.

It makes sense that there’ll be a lot of death in the finale, too. Like we said above, the war between Rick and his gang and Negan and the Saviors is about to come to a head and there will be casualties along the way. In fact, that’s something which showrunner Scott Gimple teased quite recently, saying:

We will see a resolution of the war. It might not be what people are expecting. It might not be what some of the characters even want. But it is a conclusion, and they have to deal with its aftermath. It is a war. There are casualties along the way, and it is incredibly tough business.

But it only shows just how deeply connected these characters are and how their fates are tied together, even if some of them don’t want them to be. I would never tell the audience that it was safe to exhale. It is a devastating world that these characters live in, but there is still beauty and hope.

Rick Grimes himself, Andrew Lincoln, also opened up about the episode not too long ago, saying that it’s going to be “epic.”

“I would say this is a smorgasbord. I think you’ve got everything in this one. It’s quite an unusual structure, but it’s very emotional, I hope, because that’s what I felt [while filming]. It’s epic.”

All roads have led to this. After 15 outings of fist-pumping highs and crushing lows, The Walking Dead season 8 is about to cross the finish line with the super-sized “Wrath” on April 15th. And if you’re curious, select AMC theaters will be hosting said finale alongside the hotly-anticipated premiere of Fear The Walking Dead season 4.
