The folks at ComicBook.com are bringing us some very tragic news tonight, as The Walking Dead star Scott Wilson has passed away at the age of 76.
This comes just a few hours after he was confirmed to be returning for the show’s upcoming ninth season at New York Comic Con, and while the details of his death haven’t been revealed yet, tributes have already begun popping up on social media.
Apart from The Walking Dead, Wilson held many other roles across his long and impressive career, showing up in everything from The OA to Bosch and In the Heat of the Night, among numerous other films and TV shows. It’s unclear if he had already shot his scenes for season 9 of TWD, but we imagine AMC will release an official statement shortly and shed some light on what’s going on.
As fans will know, Wilson portrayed Hershel Greene on the hit zombie drama, and though he only lasted a few seasons before meeting a rather brutal end at the hands of the Governor, he cemented himself as one of the show’s more memorable characters thanks to the key role that he played in the story.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Scott Wilson‘s family and friends at this difficult time and as soon as any further updates on the situation roll in, we’ll be sure to let you know. In the meantime, feel free to share some of your favorite memories from the actor’s accomplished career, and his time on The Walking Dead, in the comments section down below.
