Our first look at season 2 of HBO’s acclaimed sci-fi western Westworld has now arrived, courtesy of the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con. We’ve been hearing more and more about the production in recent weeks, like the casting of a few new characters as well as hints that the Hosts would be turning on their human creators in the upcoming episodes, so it’s great to finally have a trailer.

Set to the disturbingly cheerful yet totally fitting song choice of “I Gotta Be Me” by Sammy Davis Jr., the teaser shows a much different Westworld from the one seen at the end of the first season.  If you recall, the season 1 finale saw the likes of Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and Maeve (Thandie Newton) achieve autonomy and break out of their conditioning and programming. Going by the trailer, it looks like Dolores will waste no time embracing her ‘Wyatt’ persona and will begin mowing down as many guests and staff members as she can.

Meanwhile, Jeffrey Wright’s Host Bernard is shown siding with the humans while Maeve is standing with Lee Sizemore, suggesting that she’ll use him as one of her human stooges. Finally, Ed Harris’ chilling human villain The Man in Black (or, as we should now call him, William) is seen with blood on his face and smiling at all the carnage.

Co-showrunner Jonathan Nolan (The Dark Knight, Persons of Interest) has previously spoken about how this season will be “twice as ambitious” as the last one, and going by the scope and scale of the Host’s insurrection in the trailer, it looks like he wasn’t lying.

Westworld season 2 reportedly began filming this month, ahead of its release in 2018.
