Boruto: The Next Generation has been a gift that keeps on giving to avid fans of Naruto all over the world. When its precedent reached its final days in 2017, Boruto came in like a wrecking ball to introduce the offspring from the most beloved characters in Shōnen. Just recently, the first part of the story reached its conclusion on the 293rd episode, but that certainly does not mean it is the end for Boruto and Naruto fans.

As the manga continues on, albeit reaching its final conclusions on each character’s arc, Boruto is just heading towards its 80th chapter. Despite not being officially out with an English translation, the spoilers from the Japanese Raws have already been released, unveiling new information that no one could have ever predicted. At long last, Sarada has finally awakened the Magekyo Sharingan, in addition to breaking the Uchiha Curse that had been following the clan from the start. Here’s how Kishimoto’s theme of breaking the circle of hatred occurred.

How does Sarada get the Mangekyou Sharingan in Boruto?

As most fans are aware, the Curse of Hatred has been affecting the Uchiha Clan for years, turning their love into hatred after the loss of a loved one, caused by a unique chakra manifesting itself in the Uchiha’s brains. Regardless of the outcome and whether they harm those around them, their blind hatred causes them to achieve their goal at all costs. The chakra then affects their optic nerves, leading to the Sharingan awakening.

This activation is incredibly physically and emotionally demanding. As the user experiences excruciating pain, the characters undergoing the awakening are engulfed in negative emotional reactions, including hate, jealousy, and even bloodlust. Ultimately, what led to Sarada’s awakening was not the expected source. While most fans expected Sarada to reach this epitome of grief through the traumatic death of her father, Sasuke, what actually triggered her awakening was the teens’ own devotion and love towards the young Uzumaki.

As Sarada attempts to convince Sasuke that Uzumaki was not responsible for Naruto’s alleged death in chapter 77, her father is blinded by Eida’s power and desire for revenge. This negative reaction from her father towards young Boruto leads to Sarada awakening her Mangekyo Sharingan, surprising Sasuke in the process. This ginormous display of power serves as the confirmation Sasuke needed to know that Boruto is not their enemy, after all.

For the first time, the Mangekyo Sharingan is awakened by blind loyalty, love, and devotion in Boruto. This awakening is the exact turning point for the narrative that had long been connected to negative emotions and was finally overcome through love and friendship. Only time will tell what this sudden shift may mean for the Uchiha clan.
