Marvel Reportedly Plans To Team Morbius Up With [SPOILERS] In The MCU

There must be a little disappointment on Sony's part after they dropped the first Morbius trailer, because not much of the conversation has centered on the movie itself. Instead, most of the discussion has been about the Living Vampire's potential connections to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the promo revealed a background shot of a Spider-Man mural that seems tied to the conclusion of Far From Home.

Not only that, but the surprise appearance of Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes further teased that Morbius takes place in the same timeline as the MCU’s web-slinging franchise. Meanwhile, fans are speculating that the buildup to a potential Sinister Six spinoff has already begun, and that Jared Harris’ unnamed character might even turn out to be Otto Octavius.

We’ll have to find out for ourselves how closely, if at all, Morbius ties into Marvel Studios’ output when the Jared Leto-led comic book adaptation hits theaters in July, but a new piece of intel from sources close to We Got This Covered has indicated that Kevin Feige is planning on featuring one of the MCU’s newest recruits in a potential sequel should the movie turn out to be a hit.

Our sources – who have a solid track record with Marvel-related scoops after telling us about Deadpool 3 being in active development long before Ryan Reynolds officially confirmed it, and also tipping us off that Marvel were working on She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel shows for Disney Plus before they were announced at D23 – say that both Sony and Marvel are interested in having Mahershala Ali’s Blade appear in the follow-up to team-up with Leto’s Morbius, with the former studio confident that the first installment will be a success and spawn a sequel.

Of course, plans can always change as each cinematic universe continues to take shape and unfold, but it would certainly make sense to do this as the two characters have a long and storied comic book history, making them the ideal foil for one another. It isn’t clear whether this will happen before or after Blade’s MCU debut, which isn’t set to be until Phase Five at the earliest, but initial plans are for the Living Vampire and the Daywalker to team up against a major threat, which may even turn out to be Dracula himself, from what we’re told. And given that these are the same sources who also informed us that Marvel is eyeing Daniel Radcliffe for Moon Knight, which has since been confirmed, we’ve no reason to doubt it.

Besides, the newly-signed agreement between Sony and Marvel over Spider-Man indicates that the two are willing to work together, so perhaps the deal also includes the option of having characters move back and forth across both Marvel franchises. From a purely business standpoint, it would make total sense to have the two vampiric superheroes starring together in the same project, and if the Morbius sequel happens after Blade, it could get a nice little box office boost from featuring a big Marvel Studios name in a supporting role.
