I'm a writer/editor who's been at the site since 2015. I cover politics, weird history, video games and... well, anything really. Keep it breezy, keep it light, keep it straightforward.
Macaulay Culkin is now 40 and everyone is suddenly feeling the cold hand of time on their shoulder. The Home Alone star marked his birthday by posting a Tweet that immediately went viral. It read:
"Hey guys, wanna feel old? I'm 40. You're welcome."
After The Rise of Skywalker there are no officially announced Star Wars movies on the horizon. Sure, we know that The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson is still (theoretically) working on his trilogy, that Thor: Ragnarok's Taika Waititi has his own film coming and Kevin Feige has some kind of project under development. But none of these have titles or release dates, so for now, it's all hazy.
Dennis Nilsen was one of the most notorious British serial killers of the 20th century. Active in London in the late 1970s and early 80s, he preyed on the gay community, killing at least 12 men and boys. Nilsen was eventually discovered when his tactic of dissecting his victims and flushing them down the toilet caused the drains in his house to become blocked with bones and human flesh. Funnily enough, I used to live a couple of doors down from that very house and it's still got a creepy vibe.
Denis Villeneuve’s Dune looks to be one of the most ambitious science fiction films of recent years. Multiple directors have dashed themselves against the rocks of Frank Herbert's classic novels, including Alejandro Jodorowsky and David Lynch. Lynch actually managed to get his Dune to the screen, only for it to be a huge flop and the only movie he's not proud of. But where they failed, Villeneuve has a good chance of succeeding.
The Republican National Convention is underway, where the nation's freakiest ghouls gather to make bizarre speeches and plot the future destruction of the planet. We're halfway through and things have already gotten seriously odd, with the cherry on top being Kimberly Guilfoyle's surreal screaming speech delivered to a largely empty room. It seems that this was too out-there even for Trump's campaign, with his advisors describing it as "strange" and "weird."
DC's FanDome event was a big success. Everyone is talking about new trailers for Wonder Woman 1984, Zack Snyder's Justice League and The Batman, on top of cool new video game announcements and a ton of other reveals. Arrowverse fans weren't left out in the cold, either, as they got their first look at season 7 of The Flash, showing us the team working out how to rescue Iris from the Mirrorverse.
By the time hell year 2020 wraps up, are audiences really going to want to watch a story about the world grappling with a killer flu? CBS is sure hoping they will, as they've just confirmed the release date for their new adaptation of The Stand. This post-apocalyptic tale is regarded as one of Stephen King’s best novels and shows society descending into anarchy after a flu pandemic kills off 99% of the world’s population.
Right now, Johnny Depp's future lies in the hands of the Hon. Mr. Justice Nicol. The High Court Judge is currently deciding whether his libel case against News Group Newspapers succeeds, which turns on whether the abuse allegations made by his ex-wife Amber Heard are credible. If the case goes Depp's way, it'll be seen as a vindication and he may see a sudden career uptick. If he loses, though, then he could be on the hook for millions of pounds in legal fees, will suffer a huge dent to his reputation and it'll wreak havoc on his future projects.
Lucifer deserves its reputation as the comeback kid. The witty, sexy and stylish supernatural show was unjustly cancelled on Fox in 2018, only for Netflix to swoop in and save the day. The fourth season proved to be a hit for the streaming service and the fifth looks to have followed in its demonic footsteps. And that's because according to data sourced from FlixPatrol, the new run has had the biggest TV series opening on record for the streaming site.
