Thanks to A Quiet Place, we've been given some assurance that it's not just Blumhouse Productions who'll have the horror market cornered in 2018. Having already created substantial buzz with its recent TV spot that aired during the Super Bowl, this supernatural thriller looks like it may prove to be a sleeper hit when it graces cinemas this spring.
In addition to John Constantine's highly anticipated guest shot in the midseason premiere, the other major talking point regarding the back half of Legends of Tomorrow's third season has undoubtedly been that of Kid Flash's arrival. Having originated over on The Flash, Wally West will become the latest hero to board the Waverider that'd used another Arrowverse series as a springboard.
In a matter of hours, DC fans everywhere have two reasons to rejoice: Not only is Legends of Tomorrow returning to finish out the rest of its third season - which I personally believe to be its best so far - but we also have the long awaited return of one John Constantine to the Arrowverse to anticipate. Played to perfection by Matt Ryan, it's no wonder that he's been given the opportunity to reprise that role in live action and animation long after the unfortunate cancellation of his wonderful solo series.
Even though I'm someone who walked away from the Justice League movie that we eventually received with a smile on my face, there's no way I'm going to say that it was perfect or was the complete package that my favorite characters deserved. Actually, I find myself conflicted because while I do love some of the actors that populate the landscape that makes up the DC Extended Universe such as Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa, every little bit of trivia surrounding the canned Justice League Mortal forces me to believe that it'd have been the better product.
Aside from the show being forced to take a vacation for several months, it's probably safe to say that one of the major reasons that a fair amount of us are looking forward to Gotham's midseason premiere is because we expected that Jerome Valeska would heavily factor into it, right? After all, not only was he involved in the midseason finale's cliffhanger, but he's been prominently featured in promos and social media teasers in the time since.
If you tuned in for last night's episode of Arrow, "The Devil's Greatest Trick," then you're well aware of how it boasted all the excitement and intensity of a season finale. Effectively bringing Cayden James' arc to an unexpected close, we learned his tragic backstory before it was revealed that Ricardo Diaz had, in fact, arranged his son's murder. Not only that, but "The Dragon" murdered James, seemingly emerging as this season's true big bad!
Say what you want about the current season of Supernatural, but I find it to be more compelling and enjoyable than last year's effort. Really, aside from some plot threads taking vacations for longer than they should, this season's tale of alternate universes and a certain son of Satan have made for a much more coherent viewing experience than one that was bisected with the boring British Men of Letters.
One thing among many that has allowed Marvel Studios to succeed over the years is its uncanny ability to craft a shared universe populated by some of the most iconic superheroes around - in addition to others that have since become household names. This, of course, is what builds anticipation for team-up flicks like Avengers: Infinity War.
If anything, this week has proven to be a memorable one when it comes to the release of trailers. With the Super Bowl and its much talked about TV spots now behind us, studios are now offering substantial amounts of footage taken from some of the year's most anticipated blockbusters.
Even though we finally received one sweet TV spot for Avengers: Infinity War during the Super Bowl a few days ago, it stands to reason that each and every one of us are dying to see more teasers before the big team-up flick storms cinemas. Of course, we’re likely to see another full trailer or two before opening weekend arrives – with a litany of TV spots orbiting that – but any new form of material is more than appreciated.
