With Justice League now playing in theaters, audiences have finally had the chance to see DC's premiere superhero team on the big screen. However, due to the film's (mostly) negative critical reception and disappointing opening box office totals, Warner Brothers still has some tough decisions to make.
Is there a standalone comic book movie more highly anticipated than The Batman? It's been five years since the last standalone Bat-flick with 2012's The Dark Knight Rises and fans need their fix. Thankfully, it seems we won't have to wait for much longer. With Matt Reeves (fresh off of the Planet of the Apes trilogy) at the helm and Ben Affleck ready to go as the Caped Crusader, audiences can have faith in the right people having creative control over the project.
To say that Avengers: Infinity War has a lot of expectations to meet would be an understatement. After all, the upcoming blockbuster will serve as the culmination of the entire cinematic universe - one that was established with 2008's Iron Man - to date.
Video games are a truly special part of our day-to-day lives. They allow players to explore and immerse themselves within varying worlds of increasingly unique designs. Thanks to a growing wealth of options with their games, there's always an experience ready for every kind of gamer. While recent years have introduced controversial elements like DLC, micro-transactions, and Day One patches, gaming continues to thrive. However, there's another fast-developing issue that plagues today's fans, and it's self-inflicted.
Warner Brothers likely wasn't expecting their much-anticipated DC Extended Universe to be as controversial and divisive as it's proven to be. Starting with 2013's Man of Steel all the way up to last August's Suicide Squad, audience reactions have ranged from those who would stab these movies if they were a person to those would fight anyone to the death to defend Batman V Superman. Never before have audience members been so at odds with how they feel about a film universe, but is either side actually right?
Although the competition between Marvel and DC is constantly back-and-forth across most mediums, the latter continues to reign supreme in the video game department. With a great selection of titles like those from the Arkham series, Injustice series, and the recent Telltale Batman series, DC has maintained a strong presence in the industry throughout recent years. Marvel has undoubtedly noticed this though and looks to turn things around now, as they've announced a partnership for multiple games with Square Enix.
Ever since The Walking Dead, Telltale Games has taken a series of existing IPs and adapted them into vastly interesting multi-episode experiences. From Batman to Back to the Future, they've consistently impressed. Through all of these adaptations, they’ve proven themselves to be both excellent storytellers and world-builders. With their next project being Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, it’s exciting to think about what may come after that.
