Anyone who was feeling even the tiniest bit skeptical about HBO Max's Batgirl movie is now almost obligated to check it out for themselves after the streaming exclusive added Brendan Fraser, one of the most wholesome and beloved stars on the internet.
Even though Sony and Marvel Studios have offered us next to nothing in terms of specifics, based on the information we do have, most of us are expecting Spider-Man: No Way Home to revolve around Tom Holland's web-slinger battling against a multiversal Sinister Six, with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Peter Parkers roped in to lend an assist.
Sony have been desperate to bring the Sinister Six into live action for years; The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was laced with Easter Eggs teasing the nefarious sextet, who were once set to get their own spinoff written and directed by The Cabin in the Woods' Drew Goddard. Everyone loves a trier, though, and all of the signs were pointing in the direction of Spider-Man: No Way Home finally making the studio's long-held dream a reality.
When you join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you aren't obligated to instantly immerse yourself in the franchise's back catalogue, but plenty of names to have signed on were already more than familiar with the series prior to putting pen to paper, which is to be expected when it's the most commercially successful property in cinematic history.
A couple of major Marvel Cinematic Universe characters were notably absent from Avengers: Infinity War, with Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye and Paul Rudd's Ant-Man nowhere to be found. In the case of the latter, that was because his solo sequel was shooting at roughly the same time as the third all-star outing for Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
Sony may have dropped the ball on two Spider-Man franchise already, and threatened to do it for a third time in the summer of 2019 when it looked as though Tom Holland's web-slinger was going to be forcibly withdrawn from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the studio are happy to give Kevin Feige's team credit where credit is due.
