As the title alone would suggest, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is going to head into some pretty crazy territory, delivering the sort of mind and reality-altering adventures that could redefine the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. As has been the case with WandaVision up to this point and the upcoming Spider-Man 3, though, trying to predict exactly who could be dropping by for a surprise appearance has been close to impossible.
Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury played a significant supporting role in Spider-Man: Far From Home, only for the web-slinger's second outing to pull the rug out from under the fans when it came to the second post-credits stinger. Last week's number one movie at the domestic box office was The Croods: A New Age, which managed to reclaim the top spot it had already held for three consecutive weeks back in November, a full twelve weeks after it first hit the big screen. That should give you a pretty good indication of where the theatrical industry stands, and with no major nationwide debuts arriving today, it's up to VOD and streaming services once again to keep viewers occupied from Friday to Sunday.
As the owners of Marvel, it wasn't as if Disney weren't going to rely on the comic book company's roster of iconic superheroes as one of the major driving forces behind their desire to take the lead in the streaming wars, especially when they confirmed last year that original Disney Plus content was set to become the number one priority moving forward.
It's been a long time coming, but the first trailer for the Mortal Kombat reboot finally arrived yesterday, and looking at the early reactions from the fanbase, things are shaping up pretty nicely for the martial arts fantasy actioner.
