‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ suffers another blow as even Sony’s Spider-Verse beats it to Disney Plus

That's gotta sting, 'Ant-Man' fans.

Although slightly less pressing than the burning question of what Marvel’s going to do with Jonathan Majors as Kang, the other mystery that’s currently keeping MCU fans up at night is when the heck is Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania finally going to arrive on Disney Plus. It already looks set to break the platform’s records to become the slowest Marvel flick to make its streaming debut. In fact, it’s taking so long that films from a whole other franchise are hitting the Mouse House’s service first.

In news that’s delighting webheads everywhere, Disney Plus has announced that a bunch of Sony’s Spider-Man movies are making their D+ debuts both this Friday and in the coming weeks. For starters, the entire Sam Raimi trilogy and The Amazing Spider-Man drop on April 21, with Spider-Man: Homecoming and Venom then following on May 12.

As those who keep up to date with these sort of things will know, the Spider-Man franchise has previously been barred from Disney Plus in the United States thanks to complicated contractual issues between Sony and Disney. So it really says something that even a situation this complicated can be unpicked to allow the webslinger to swing onto the site before Quantumania, an actual Marvel Studios production, does the same.

It’s hard to say exactly why Marvel is holding out on us with Ant-Man 3, although we could speculate that generating additional hype in this way could make up for the film’s subpar quality and raise the hype for it. Alternatively. it’s possible the Disney Plus release is being held off until the studio has made a definitive decision on the Majors conundrum. All we know is this is yet another surprising win for Sony over the MCU.
