A week ago, the internet was sent into a meltdown when Robert Pattinson was announced to be Warner Bros.’ top choice to become the next Dark Knight. Following articles backtracked on this initial report though, with further claims saying his casting in Matt Reeves’ The Batman was not yet a done deal as other actors such as Nicholas Hoult were still being considered.
We Got This Covered can now inform you, though, that we’ve heard Pattinson is 100% confirmed to star as the new Caped Crusader. As has previously been stated, the studio was putting him through a rigorous auditioning process to make sure they had the right guy and our source tells us that this is now complete, with WB happy to trust their most valuable DC hero in the former Twilight actor’s hands. As such, you can expect an official announcement on the matter very soon.
Pattinson has been linked to the role for a few months now, but it wasn’t until the news last week that fans actively took the potential casting seriously. Naturally, as most had their heart set on a safer choice like Armie Hammer or even an older actor like Jon Hamm, there was a lot of backlash against the idea of “Battinson.” At the same time, many leapt to his defense, pointing those only familiar with his performance as a certain sparkly vampire to seek out his other work.
Once his casting’s made official, Pattinson’s Dark Knight is set to face not one or two but six of Gotham’s worst villains, with Penguin and Catwoman already confirmed. WGTC previously brought you the news that the Riddler would be the tertiary antagonist of The Batman, while Bane and Scarecrow could also feature. Vanessa Hudgens, Josh Gad, Theo Rossi and Toby Kebbell are among the other names linked to the movie, but to date, none of them have been confirmed.
We should know more soon, though, as The Batman is due to start filming in November ahead of its scheduled release date of June 25th, 2021. As always, watch this space for further developments.
