Christian Bale opens $22 million foster care village he helped create: ‘turn their heartbreak and their pain into love and hope’

A real-life Bruce Wayne project.

Palmdale’s Antelope Valley added a new stretch of finished homes this week, the kind built specifically for kids who no longer live with their parents. According to ABC7, Christian Bale attended the ribbon-cutting alongside officials, donors and staff involved in bringing the project to life. The property is Together California, a foster care village Bale helped create, and organizers say people will begin moving in next month.

Organizers say it takes a different approach to caring for children in the system. The project has even added another chapter to Bale’s real-life Bruce Wayne reputation, given that the actor once played Gotham’s billionaire vigilante on screen.

The village will prioritize keeping siblings together while they’re in foster care, an arrangement Together California says is uncommon for children moving through California’s system. Bale laid out the thinking behind it in blunt terms: “It’s our job to turn their heartbreak and their pain into love and hope and a sense of future.”

A foster care village built around keeping siblings together

The community covers 11,000 square feet and holds 12 furnished homes, built, according to organizers, to give kids and their families a safe and stable place to land rather than another temporary stop. Programs on site are said to focus on stability, support and care.

The project had been a long time coming for Bale, whose organization had been working toward the village for 17 years. A February 2026 report from MarketWatch put the development’s cost at $22 million and said 11 multifamily structures were already in place as the village took shape in Palmdale.

Together California Executive Director Tim McCormick described the goal in similar terms, calling it “a place where everyone is welcomed, a place that keeps families together, a place that creates community, a place where you can find hope in the most challenging of times.” The push to keep siblings under one roof mirrors a pattern that shows up well outside Palmdale too, as families elsewhere have gone public just trying to track down siblings the system separated years earlier.

Donations made the project possible, organizers said, with the Austrian American Council West helping raise nearly $9 million for the effort. Council President Veronika Reinelt framed the contribution in modest terms: “Perhaps the greatest legacy we can leave is not that our names will be remembered, but that children’s lives are better because we cared.”

Together California co-founder Dr. Eric Esrailian credited Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger with pushing the project past the planning stage, saying, “She embraced this project. She said we have to do this in the Antelope Valley. She connected us with Palmdale, and here we are today.”

Barger, for her part, didn’t hedge on what she expects the campus to do. “I guarantee you this project is going to change the trajectory of each and every child that steps foot on this campus,” she said.

With the ribbon-cutting complete, organizers said people will begin moving into the community next month.
