Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Disney Reportedly Planning Knights Of The Old Republic Show For Disney Plus

According to industry tipster Daniel RPK, Disney is planning a Knights of the Old Republic TV show for the Disney Plus streaming service.

The Mouse House currently has their eye on Netflix’s crown and plans to take it pretty soon by launching their very own streaming service in the form of Disney Plus. With so many different IPs at their disposal, it’s not like they’ll be hard-pressed to find original content and so far, they’ve already announced a number of Marvel TV shows as well as The Mandalorian, which will be the very first live-action series in the Star Wars saga.

But they won’t be stopping there. Far from it, in fact. A few weeks ago, we learned of plans for shows revolving around Finn, Poe, Lando, Qi’Ra and even a young Princess Leia. And if all that wasn’t exciting enough, we’re now hearing that there are also talks of doing a series based on Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic.

It’s been a long, long time since EA and BioWare first launched the cult RPG video game and in the years since, we’ve seen a further two additions added to the KOTOR universe in the form of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords and MMO spinoff, Star Wars: The Old Republic. But despite the cries from fans, we’ve still never seen a proper film or TV adaptation, and that’s a real shame.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

For those unfamiliar with the property, it’s set thousands of years before the events of the Skywalker Saga and the games allowed you to visit many iconic locations from the franchise, participate in space combat, socialize with a motley crew of companions (including the truly iconic killbot HK-47), follow an interesting plot with a shocking twist and, best of all, choose whether you want to be some boring goody two shoes Jedi or an epic lightning throwing Sith Lord. Given that technology doesn’t seem to ever evolve very much in Star Wars, everything was still recognizable, too. We’re talking hyperspace crafts, lightsabers, giant space fortresses, all of it.

Of course, further details on the proposed TV show are non-existent at this early, early stage, but the idea is certainly being discussed and that’s not exactly surprising to hear. After all, after Solo‘s lackluster box office performance showed that the franchise’s cinematic universe has its limits, Disney Plus seems like the perfect alternative channel to tell new stories on. And with The Mandalorian already shaping up to be one of the service’s most exciting projects, we have full faith that the Mouse House will be able to put together something pretty special for Knights of the Old Republic as well.
