New ‘Avatar’ animated series has reportedly begun casting

Another 'Avatar' series has been announced and casting has begun.

Avatar Studios, the people behind the Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise, are now looking for potential cast members to star in its upcoming project.

The studio is looking for those willing to star in Avatar: New Generations, a show that’s rumored to feature Avatar Kyoshi and her version of team Avatar, Yun, Rangi, and Hei-Ran. These characters were first introduced in Chronicles of the Avatar, a series of novels that told the stories of the old Avatars before Aang. The first two books were based on the origin story of Avatar Kyoshi.

According to Avatar News, information about the casting call is still vague. It was speculated that this series will be separate from previously announced projects like an adult version of Team Aang from the original series and the upcoming Earth Nation Avatar project that’s scheduled to be released on Paramount in 2025. At the same time, the studio is currently doing adult casting calls for its adult Team Aang movie, so the scheduling of production remains a mystery.

“There’s still a bit of uncertainty about this current round of casting and what projects each casting call is for. We know for sure that the 2025 adult Gaang movie (itself already rumored to be titled ATLA: Hidden Kingdom) is casting the adult Gaang at the moment. We also now know these Kyoshi characters are being cast for New Generations. We technically don’t know whether they’re being cast for the adult Gaang movie, in which case that would be New Generations, or a separate project, most likely the new earth Avatar series coming the same year (2025).”

It’s also currently unknown if Avatar: New Generations is going to be based on the next Avatar cycle following the death of Avatar Korra. After all, it would make sense if this series is based on the next Avatar rather than focusing on the Avatar’s past.

“It would make a lot of sense for something called New Generations to be about, well, the new generation, so it feels like that’s a point for the Kyoshi characters showing up in the new earth Avatar series rather than the adult Gaang movie.”

Avatar Studios have announced multiple projects since Avatar: The Legend of Korra ended in 2014. Not to mention Netflix is releasing its live-action adaptation of The Last Airbender, starring huge names like Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Uncle Iroh, and James Sei reprising his role as the iconic cabbage merchant.

As of writing, Avatar: New Generations has no confirmed or scheduled release date.
