It’s that time of year again. Time to make the final predictions about how this Sunday’s Academy Awards is going to turn out as well as which nominee(s) I feel to be the most worthy of taking home the award.
Tim Burton’s latest collaboration with Disney, the animated comedy Frankenweenie, has finally had its first poster released via Facebook and it’s nothing shy of what we expected.
Bullying is a hot issue these days and director Lee Hirsch is capitalizing on that trend in his new documentary Bully. His inspirational film about the realities of bullying of adolescents was made with the hope that when students saw it, they would have a change of heart.
A couple of weeks back, it was announced that Ridley Scott had attached himself to The Counselor, an original script by the acclaimed author Cormac McCarthy with Michael Fassbender circling the lead role. Well Deadline now confirms for us that Fassbender has landed the lead role in the picture, which is set to go before cameras on May 1st.
Last year it was announced that Sydney would follow in the footsteps of Paris and New York to do an anthology in the vein Paris, je t’aime and New York, I Love You. THR have now announced that the project that it will in-fact get underway this year and it will be called Sydney Unplugged.
In the new documentary I Ain’t Scared of You: A Tribute to Bernie Mac, the late comedian’s life is explored from the time he was struggling as a comedian, to the time when he eventually reached stardom. The documentary consists of old footage from his tours, clips from different movies, and interviews with actors and actresses with whom Bernie Mac worked on various films. Those interviewed include Cameron Diaz, Don Cheadle, Andy Garcia, and director Steven Soderbergh.
Rhonda McCullough, the widow of Bernie Mac, took some time to speak to us about the documentary and share her favorite memories of Bernie. McCullough also served as executive producer for the documentary and talks about her experience of working in that position.
As expected, the R-rated Wanderlust previews have been watered down, with Universal holding back on the real raunchy stuff. That all changed though as a new red band trailer features more than just a scantily clad Jennifer Aniston. It showcases most of the supporting cast from Role Models barely covered as well.
Gael Garcia Bernal has been cast as the new Zorro in Fox’s upcoming reboot of the vigilante tale, Zorro Reborn. The Mexican actor’s portrayal of Zorro will that of an anti-hero and a revenge-seeking rebel, as opposed to earlier versions of the character that presented him as the protagonist.
Oh boy, here we go. Here’s a joke for everyone: how do you know when Nicolas Cage has hit rock bottom? Trick question: Cage has already sunk through the bottom. In fact, the bottom is so high above him now that Leaving Las Vegas and Adaptation aren’t even specks anymore. Any shred of respect that audiences could hold onto for Cage will quickly dissipate as they try to take in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, the horrible sequel to the horrid Ghost Rider that stained movie screens in 2007.
For some time now there have been rumblings regarding a sequel to 2007′s I Am Legend and now, we finally have confirmation that Warner Bros. is moving ahead with it and it will likely be starring Will Smith. Deadline tells us that Warner Bros. has hired up-and-comer Arash Amel to pen the film’s initial draft. Better yet, the film is being set up to allow Will Smith to reprise his role as Robert Neville, if he so chooses.
